FUNCTION IN PRODUCTION

The primary focus of this post is that organisational function commonly called production.

This function usually is responsible for the management of a process or procedure intended to convert a set of input into a predetermined set of output in accordance with the objectives assigned to that production system.

Traditionally, to provide for specialisation the firm has been organised into three basic functional groups which are marketing finance and production. The marketing group generate the demand, the financial group generate the capital and the production group generate the supply of output. all these groups can at one point or another be evaluated as operating systems and you will encounter many gray areas the material offered in your conscience where one functional area or another claims intellectual justicton over certain functions.

Both marketing and production we study the distribution and location of warehousing and service facilities. finance and production report emphasize method of resource allocation important to the design and evaluation of investments.

From our point of view, it is not important to settle this jurisdictional disputes. What is important is that you view such activities as alternative ways of structuring your analysis, so that you see the underlying processes operating in each area and can make rational decisions concerning them.

The function of the production manager is that of putting together input of men, capital, materials, information, and energy and transforming them into product and services in the quantity quality time and location that will best meet the organisation objective. In an organisation with a market orientation this may mean that the process we have to be balanced between what marketing can sell and the best profit opportunities.

In a public agency, it may mean balancing client's needs against the available budget.

In each case, there will be a set of trade-offs to be made between multiple goals and their available resources
