2022, how fast time passes. As if it were yesterday, I can still remember my dreams 40 years ago about the future after the millennium.
Flying cars, spaceships for all and alien pen pals were, of course, part of many of those of my dreams. Now, 40 years later, all I can say is how nice it is to have fantasy.
At LMAC we can let our hair down in a fantastic and cultivated way. So I'm taking part in another LMAC round for the first time this year. And it was a lot of fun.
Of course, as always, I'm taking part out of competition this time too.
2022, wie schnell doch die Zeit vergeht. Als wäre es gestern gewesen, kann ich mich noch genau an meine Träume vor 40 Jahren über die Zukunft, jenseits des Millenniums erinnern.
Fliegende Autos, Raumschiffe für alle und Alien-Brieffreunde, gehörten selbstverständlich in viele dieser Träume. Nun, 40 Jahre später, bleibt mir nur die Erkenntnis, wie schön es ist, Fantasie zu haben.
Bei LMAC kann man auf fantastische Weise gepflegt die Sau raus lassen. So beteilige ich mich hiermit, das erste Mal in diesem Jahr einmal wieder an einer LMAC Runde. Es hat viel Spaß gemacht.
Natürlich nehme ich wie immer, auch dieses Mal außer Konkurrenz teil.
A little story first...
Fisherman Alfred is a hard-working man. Day in, day out, he sails out to sea to catch fish with his cutter. He tries to top himself every day and buys bigger and bigger nets. The fish bring him money on the market, many fish bring much more money.
It is an incentive that keeps driving him to increase his catch day by day.
He has already emptied almost all the waters around his home bay. He doesn't care about the size of the fish, he takes everything he can get. In the end, the mass alone is worth it.
Many fish and other creatures have already had to leave the waters because Alfred even fishes away their food.
Others were forced to look for other sources of food.
One day, when Alfred was again anchored in a bay with his cutter, in order to fish it empty, there was a great surprise in the food chain for at least one of the creatures that live in the sea on Alfred's home coast.
Zunächst eine kleine Geschichte...
Fischer Alfred ist ein fleißiger Mann. Tag ein Tag aus, fährt er raus auf die See um mit seinem Kutter Fische zu fangen. Dabei versucht er sich jeden Tag selbst zu übertreffen und kauft immer größere Netze. Die Fische bringen ihm Geld auf dem Markt, viele Fische bringen viel mehr Geld ein.
Es ist ein Ansporn, der ihn immer weiter treibt, seinen Fang von Tag zu Tag zu vergrößern.
Nahezu alle Gewässer rund um seine Heimatbucht hat er so schon leer gefischt. Die Größe der Fische ist ihm völlig egal, er nimmt alles was er bekommen kann. Am Ende lohnt sich ja alleine die Masse.
Viele Fische und andere Lebewesen haben die Gewässer daher schon vor verlassen müssen, weil Alfred ihnen sogar ihr Futter wegfischt.
Andere mussten sich andere Futterquellen suchen.
Als Alfred eines Tages mit seinem Kutter wieder in einer Bucht lag, um diese leer zu fischen, ergab sich zumindest für eines der Lebewesen, die an Alreds Küste im Meer leben, eine tolle Überraschung in der Nahrungskette.

What is LMAC?
LMAC is a great community for artists of all skill levels. The name of the community is an abbreviation and stands for "Let's make a collage".
Just take a look. Even if you think you are not an artist, LMAC will probably prove you wrong.

We are currently building our own photo/image library that we can use as a image source for our collages, but also every Hiver beyond LMAC is very welcome to use the images in it.

Conan the Barbarian... I remember when the film was just released in Germany and I wasn't allowed to watch it yet because I was too young. Today it's already a cult classic. Time flies! xD
But in the meantime I have watched and like it.
Did you refer to the lighting when you wrote it would make a good set design for this movie?
It's a very light sepia lighting. I did it with an overlay that has a sepia gradient on it that gets a little darker from top to bottom. Layer mode "Vivid light" in GIMP. This always results in nice effects. :-)

I don't know how closely you remember that film, but it was a blend of the real and unreal. The snake scenes especially had physically entities morphing into other entities. The snake images, especially, emphasized the eyes. So, your whole piece, the effect that you describe, the gaze of the snake, its continuity with the water and the background--all of it would be perfect--actually could have come out of--Conan. I think that movie deserves to be a cult classic.
Check it out again if you don't remember the movie as I do.
It's a great collage, both sinister and arresting at the same time.

Hola, querido @quantumg. ¡Qué asombrosa imagen has logrado aquí! A pesar de lo amenazante de la criatura, hay una capa hermosamente plácida en las formas, transparencias y la ligereza del agua y las nubes.
Aparte: También creía que después del año 2000 íbamos a viajar en carros voladores. 😄
