Walking Through the Hay Field

I sometimes love to walk with my dog to the hay field to enjoy the beautiful view of the valley. My dog loves going there with me. When I changed direction to head toward the field, he started skipping and wagging his tail excitedly.

When we arrived, I let him roam freely. I walked behind him, taking a moment to daydream.

This is the Michaelmas daisy, my favourite autumn flower. Its light purple colour creates such an elegant image under the soft autumn sunshine. These flowers last well into late autumn, so I get to enjoy them for a long time.

In Japanese, they’re called Yuzengiku (友禅菊) because their color reminds people of Yuuzenzome (友禅染), a Japanese resist dyeing technique used for kimonos and obi. These flowers are often placed on tombstones when visiting ancestors in cemeteries.

The flower's message is "Energy that won't be lost to the youth" or "Staying energetic even in old age." Hmm... I didn’t know that! I’ll take the second message for myself, as I don’t want to compete with anyone.

I love this view so much. I can see golden patches, reminding me that autumn is here. Soon, the landscape will be painted in reds, browns, yellows, and more. I love this weather. It’s not too hot, not too cold. I can still wear sandals and a T-shirt. I hope this weather lasts longer this year.

When I get home, I notice more Yuzengiku a lot near my house and around my property. I feel lucky to be surrounded by my favourite flowers.

干し草畑の散歩

渓谷の眺めを見るのが好きで、よく犬の散歩がてら干し草畑を訪れます。私の犬もここに行くのが好きです。この干し草畑に向かっていることに気がつくと、彼は嬉しそうにスキップしながら尻尾を振って喜びます。

到着すると、リードを外して自由にします。私は愛犬の後を歩きながら空想の世界へと入ります。

これはユウゼンギクで、好きな花です。薄い紫色をしたこの花は、秋の穏やかな日差しの下で優雅に輝いています。秋の下旬ごろまで元気に咲いているので、長く楽しむことができる花です。

名前の由来はその名の通り、友禅染からきているらしいです。よくお彼岸用のお花としてお墓参りの時に飾られる花ですね。

ユウゼンギクの花言葉は「若者に負けぬ元気」「老いても元気で」らしいです。知りませんでした。私は誰かと競い合うのは好まないので「老いても元気で」のメッセージを受けとりたいと思います。

ここからの眺めは最高です。ところどころに見える黄金色の畑が目に飛び込んでくると、秋が来たな〜と思わせてくれます。もうすぐ、ここから見える眺めは赤、茶、黄色などで色鮮やかになります。暑くなく、寒むもない天候が大好きです。サンダルでTシャツを着ていても寒くないこの感じが心地よいです。この気温が長く続いてほしいものです。

帰る途中、近所でも自分の家の敷地内でもユウゼンぎくをたくさん見かけました。好きな花に囲まれているのがとてもラッキーだと思います。
