King Winter is back with a vengeance!

in Amazing nature (AN)2 days ago (edited)

When I think about winters and the way that I like it, I think about freezing cold, falling snow, black ice and hot chocolate. The reality of winter in the Netherlands couldn't be any more different in general. Again in general as this winter it is looking very much different at the moment.

The first good move of this season was to escape autumn for a long period of time, not noticing that the days were becoming shorter and the skies were getting grayer. Christmas comes around the corner and lights and happiness are everywhere.

New years starts and boom....Frosty reaches and strikes back with a vengeance!

Getting colder and colder

Already during the week it was starting to get a lot colder and that meant having some extra work in the mornings getting ready before heading outside. But that has never bothered me, as cold is just a lot better than having rain and heavy winds.

Also it was giving cool images in the morning as the leaves are getting this whole new texture given to them.

Heck I would love to have a plant looking like this throughout the whole year. Or is it maybe a lot more special because this is only a couple of mornings per year here in the Netherlands?

I don't know but it looks pretty cool!

So ....why?

Okay...inserting a bit of nerdiness over here now.

For a lot of people snow is just really something nothing that happens months a year. But for the climate in the Netherlands this always a bit of a balance that it takes to actually happen.

Because for snow you need two ingredients to actually get it. Water in the sky and cold in the sky. Since the Netherlands is next to the North sea and the majority of the time has a the winds coming from that side, that means that in general moisty clouds are transported land inwards. Hence ...rain.

But every now and then the winds start coming from the East which transport the dry cold air coming from the Siberian land will plummet the temperatures, but this is dry air with no precipitation in there. Aka....dry cold skies and black ice.

But when getting snow it means that these two types of air should collide to actually get some snow and that balance doesn't happen a lot turning out into snow. Also the colliding of the air usually doesn't take a couple of days, so here in the Netherlands the snowy moments are never longer than just a day or something.

This time is different

Yeah this time is different which of course is our favorite crypto sentence as there is tons of hopium inside of there. The same is going on here now with the snowfall as it is predicted to last a couple of days which I looooooveeee.

I haven't been disappointed at all today as the snow showers are coming and going and that also means that the dog is living his best life in there. Running around, eating snow rolling over becoming more like a snow rabbit. Doggo is a big fan as maybe this is his mountain dog nature in there! Love these kinds of days!

Looking forward to what will be coming, it is looking goood for now. Bring it on King Winter!!
