AMAZING NATURE PRESENT:πŸ₯½ (Passion fruit under the microscope)πŸ”¬

Passion fruit is a tropical fruit that is consumed all over the world. It can be processed or eaten as is. With this post we will understand a little about the morphology and physiology of the different tissues that make up this delicious fruit. It is a resistant climbing plant that likes humid climates. The interesting thing about this fruit is that it bears fruit all year round. Passion fruit has great "antioxidant and immunostimulant properties" (Pochettino, 2015).πŸ”¬πŸ§«πŸ§‘πŸ»β€πŸŽ“

Do you know what exocarp means?πŸ§«πŸ”¬πŸŠ

To better understand the definition of Exocarp we must analyze the fruit from the outside, that is, the first layer that we see and which gives the fruit its color and texture is called the exocarp, which in turn is part of the Pericarp tissues, this layer is full of aromatic oils that give the fruit its aroma as well as a protective wax, like the mesocarp they have a protective function for the internal tissues, mainly the seed. The endocarp as you see in the photo is the pulp of the fruit (https://mmegias.webs.uvigo.es/). About the mesocarp which is the photo in the lower right corner is the layer that covers the seed as well as the endocarp, both are edible in the passion fruit, it is full of reserve substances such as starch, sugars, the seed will use them to germinate a new plant (ecologiaverde.com)πŸ§‘πŸ»β€πŸŽ“πŸ”¬πŸ§ͺ🧫

What are the Sclareids?πŸ§«πŸ”¬πŸŠ

Sclereids are cells located in the sclerenchyma (supporting tissue), which we can find in any part of the plant, they are short and have very varied shapes, as we see in the photo there is a grouping of these cells in the pulp of the fruit forming some kind of pattern (https://www.biologia.edu.ar/). Another interesting structure that we see in the photo are starch grains that are carbohydrate reserves that are also used by the seed to consume them and ensure germination. I understand that a passion fruit contains 9% carbohydrates. (ri.conicet.gov.ar/).πŸ”¬πŸ§ͺ🧫🍊

Are there stomata on the fruit?πŸ§«πŸ”¬πŸŠ

Stomata are structures that are responsible for gas exchange. They are not normally found in fruit, or are not functional in the mature stages. I was checking with this article and apparently some stomata can be found in the epidermis, however they are abundant in the leaf. This work indicates mmegias.webs.uvigo.es "that fruits in the ripening process can have stomata and can also use them to transpire" later the transpiration is carried out by the cuticle.

What is the endosperm?πŸ§«πŸ”¬πŸŠ

Only plants with seeds have an endosperm, for example in the coconut the endosperm would be the water, here it is the tissue that covers the seed, a "slimy" yellow one that joins the external tissue of the fruit, what happens is that the endosperm is formed with the embryonic sac, it has three chromosomes therefore it is triploid, here we can see starch and other substances since the seed will use it when it germinates to be able to grow. This concentration of colors and grains is an accumulation of cells.

Seed morphology?πŸ§«πŸ”¬πŸŠ

With a series of cuts to the passion fruit seed we are going to explain what each layer means and what function it has inside the fruit! First we begin by defining that the seed is composed of: (Tegument, embryo and endosperm) the endosperm we have already explained therefore we are going to explain the tegument, also known as (episperm) is a protective cover that protects the embryo from external agents (fcen.uncuyo.edu.ar), finally the embryo that would be the development of the zygote we could also define it as "a miniature plant" (www.ugr.es/)πŸ§ͺπŸ”¬πŸ₯½

Any other information?πŸ§«πŸ”¬πŸŠ

This is not the case with passion fruit, but there are some seeds in the plant kingdom that are so light that they are carried by the wind for hundreds of kilometers. Do you remember that I told you that the endosperm in the coconut was water? Well, in addition to providing nutrients to the seed, the water serves to give buoyancy to the coconut and it can be transported by the tide for thousands of kilometers. Fantastic, isn't it?🍊πŸ§ͺ🧫

Any news on AN?πŸ§«πŸ”¬πŸŠ

We have a new update for the community, and that is that we are going to receive posts about aquariums and fishkeeping. I saw that there is no active community with this, so we are going to vote on these posts. We have a specialist in the topic, so the experience to give feedback will be useful for both parties. We are enthusiastic and eager to receive your posts. We will also publish a weekly article of this scientific genre to enrich the value of the community within the platform.πŸ§‘πŸ»β€πŸŽ“πŸ¬πŸŸπŸ¦
