Lost in space and found in thought

in OCD4 years ago

Now that we have moved to a freshly renovated place upstairs. Now it’s time to dig into the reform below which means making some plans of what we’re going to do. Tonight, I think my wife is going to spend a few hours going to bed to create some 3D models to get an idea of the place and have the potential to “imagine” for my brother before doing anything. He has his eye on design in general. But it must be seen, he cannot create it himself.

It frustrates me when I try to explain a point to him. But I understand that we all have our own skills and not everyone is good at seeing places. Just as not everyone is good at cooking and cleaning. Even though I’m frustrated, I still don’t try it and don’t even imagine it. So I don’t know why he forces me to do things that aren’t good. Seems unfair.

I usually move on before I get into more trouble than I do.

Where the upper floors were an intensive renovation, the lower floors are just one kind of thing. As we were doing the toilet area, most other things are more aesthetic. The thing I'm going to plan for tonight is the door and the wall between the lounge room and the dining room, as you can see in the image below.

The wall will be taken out and the entrance will be wide, but we will keep the plates and glasses and new, glass door cabinets built into the wall like that. Since we are working on a budget. They will probably be IKEA cabinets and doors but they should feel quite stiff and luxurious as they are built. We were at IKEA yesterday and we didn’t quite find out what was next. But I think we’ll manage with a little mix-n-matching.

The other thing we noticed is that prices have risen quite a bit in most parts of the stock. The gap between the other stores is closing, so let's take a look around. All in all, we've used these for kitchens and bathrooms before and are very satisfied with the quality regardless of the low price. We now have an expensive Finnish company in the kitchen and we did not like the way it works. Good to buy locally. However, it may still be effective.

So, although the challenge is not really on this side of the wall, it is more on the other side. Because there we will make room for the wood next to the fireplace and we will have to go back to the back of some cabinets. Which will probably be built in bookstores. I like the idea from a philosophical point of view but I guess that over the next decade, our book collection will shrink even more than it does now, with digital take over.

I look forward to making our home both beautiful and functional over the coming years. So I think it's good to think about what "coming" is going to include. For us, storage space isn’t always at the top of the list because we both make noise around the place. So I think the lack of space in the lounge walls due to the fireplace and the large window on the outside wall probably doesn’t make us want a cupboard against the other two. One of which will have a permanent piano against which we have inherited.

Space is an interesting subject in my opinion, because it is a resource that influences our thinking and behavior in subtle ways that we often do not fully recognize. We can feel oppressed when there is chaos. We get frustrated when we get stuck in traffic and when the lights come on and the lights come on to change places. Then we think we can breathe. We have different choices for each of us but we are all affected.

One interesting thing about the way our minds work is that we don’t actually think in pictures, we think in space. When we imagine things we are centered and driven to touch them in such a way that our mind is driven by the input it receives. I think that’s why it’s so important to create a space that positively influences our thinking and encourages us to improve ourselves. It is not always possible to do as it is, but positive places can be created.

I grew up in a big house and I live in a big house now. However, they are completely different in form and function. But in the meantime I’ve lived in quite a few small budget spaces that don’t allow me to buy a better place, it needs to be made. But one thing I’ve always found is that when people enter my house in the past, they feel comfortable as soon as they sit home even though I know people who want everything primitive. Having a place where people feel comfortable and open is valuable to me because it enables much more authentic conversation and better relationships.

I hope that once all the renovation work is done, we will be able to host the people who come to our place and they can feel that they have lived here for years. Where things are functional and intuitive and the mind can get lost in space and find in thought. Focuses on what needs to be done. Even enjoying a glass of wine is all you need to do.
