A breeze of Relief : Rain in Heat wave

Among all the seasons of our country, rain comes as a sign of peace after unbearable heat. It brings new colour to nature, paints the canvas and brings everything to life. No matter if you are a summer lover or winter lover, you must love this calmness of rain. Is there anyone who doesn't love that cold breeze after it rains? I honestly do not think so.

As in this scorching heat when the sun mercilessly beats down the whole nation, I find my comfort in the distant whisper of thunderstorms and the darkening clouds floating on the horizon. After weeks since the last drop of rain dropped on this land, the oppressive heat wave seems to have engulfed everything in its fierceness. But today the whole day was different. There was a promise in the air - it felt like relief.

This evening, I was sitting by the window seat of the bus while coming back home from my classes. I was gazing eagerly at the sky as usual. Suddenly a cold breeze started and I saw storm clouds gathering up there. Not long after that it started to thunderstorm. The air felt heavy with anticipation ; anticipation of rain. Each passing seconds felt longer than usual as if time itself was holding itself for the first sign of rain after a heated day.

And then - finally it began. A gentle and calm sound of the rain started. It was like a soft whisper from the heavens above. I heard people cheering loudly out of utmost happiness as the rain started to cool down the city roads. It was as nature itself is rejoicing and celebrating its miraculous ability to revive its weary soul. Sitting in the bus I couldn’t wait any longer to get down and get drenched in this rain. I closed my eyes and let the breeze cool me down. I was amazed by the fact that how wonderfully a few drops of water was making everyone feel so better.

Usually I am not a person who loves the rainy season. Because it feels a bit bothersome to me according to our country’s situations. But this rain was very different from any other season. It was about providing that relief from the heat, nourishing everything and listening to people’s prayer for days for it to rain. If only I could make everyone see how happy those faces were while getting back home tonight!

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to experience this rain in Mumbai or London. Two cities that are very known for their relationship with monsoon. I have heard in Mumbai, the arrival of the monsoon is a cause of celebration there. I would love to be a part of that someday.

But wherever I may happen to be, rain that comes in a form of relief would definitely be so close to my heart forever. It would always remind me of the calmness and resilience of nature.
And as I sit here watching the rain fall outside I can not help but feel grateful for this.

Finally as I reached my destination and got off the bus, I let it pour all over me. I closed my eyes and let the drops of rain wash and took me in its cool embrace. For that moment I felt those worries of heatwave and the stress of my other deadlines melt away and replaced with the calmness of this rain. I felt so content and full of life again. I looked around and saw everyone there were feeling the same and I’m sure that I am right about it.

Rain in the rainy season sometimes does feel a bit bothersome but in this scorching heat it felt like a gift or a blessing from heaven to us. As I went home, I wanted to take a moment to appreciate this rain and write about it. So here it goes.

This is my entry for #mayinleo day 5 for the Inleo initiative. You can also join us by reading all the details in the announcement post.

Is there anyone who doesn't love that cold breeze after it rains?

Oh my! How much I love it! There was an heavy rain two days ago at midnight, I love the breeze coming through the window, the heat varnished. I enjoyed my sleep more and it was a big relief that brought peace to me. Rain is good. Even though I may dislike rainy season, it doesn't make me detest it when it comes when needed to send the heat wave away.

Thanks for your nice words ❤️
