My “Scum” experience

Late 2019, I was squatting with a friend in Lagos who had a neighbor called Kay. Kay was a tall, lanky, well to do guy who picked interest in me from the first day he set eyes on me, we got talking and were just being friends at that point until Few days to the first COVID lockdown in Nigeria, the friend who I was living with decided to chase me out of her house for no Fault of mine.

I was stranded, so Kay who witnessed everything, asked me to stay with him till after the lockdown ( which will thought will be lifted in say 1 week). Kay came into my life and changed everything, he gave me the best lockdown experience at his house, we started dating within that period and it was bliss. Anything I wanted, I got( maybe I should have asked for a car, lol just kidding)

After the COVID lockdown eased off a bit, He rented me an apartment and furnished it, so I moved out of his house to mine but our relationship continued.

I was Happy, I thought I had it all, I mean, I didn’t have to bother about Rent, what to eat, money for upkeep and even money to send for my mom, and for a girl like who had struggled and toiled all her life, for these things, it was sure a Miracle to me.

After I moved out from His, Kay started to act “too busy” to come see me or even let me come see him. He was so “innocent looking “ that I didn’t even think he was cheating on me, so I just agreed that he was busy and gave him space.

1 month later, a strange number sent me a whatsapp Voice note, when I opened it, it was the voice of a girl cursing I and my entire generation, saying all sorts of ill words, talking about “ leave my man alone you prostitute, we have been dating for 5 years and engaged for 6 months now and I won’t let girls like you to take him away from me. I wondered who this person was and who “her man” was, but as I scrolled down the chat, I saw a picture and video evidence that she had sent. Guess who her man was? KAY!!

There I stood, livid watching “my man” kissing a girl in a video, and this video was recorded at his house. I couldn’t even say a word for like 10minutes straight, I couldn’t understand how this man had a fiancé who he engaged 6 months ago ( 6 months ago was when I started living with him before COVID)and had been dating for 5 years??????

Well, shoot me!!!!!!! Shoot me!!!!!
So apparently, I was just a companion for the COVID-19 period, while his Girl was away?

I felt every type and shade of TERRIBLE!
But after 2 days, I summoned courage to confront him about it and all he said was
“ oh don’t mind that girl she is just dramatic”
Like that’s it? That’s all this man could say? “Am I a joke to this man” I asked myself over and over again.

I ended the call, and blocked him on social media and on calls out of anger, but he made his way to my house when he couldn’t reach me. He came bearing Gifts and the worst apology I had ever received in my life. Such cold apology with no remorse.

That would have been my moment to say “ men are Scum” but even at that, I just couldn’t write other men off because of one man’s mistake.

I and Kay have not spoken since then, and it’s been 1year plus. Sincerely, I don’t care.
