This too shall Pass – Covid19 Lockdown

Covid-19 Lockdown will forever remain etched in our minds from here on, taking us to a whole new world for sure!

Scary yes, but as the days in isolation go on, I’m starting to see that there are many lessons to be learnt during this period.

No one really can tell just how this virus that our immune systems have difficulty fighting, started.

CONSPIRACY THEORIES ABOUND, LIKE...

  • Covid-19 is a big cover-up for the 5G Technology causing Coronavirus.
The theory behind this is that a biological shock wave occurs when new electrical technology is introduced, as with the Spanish flu of 1918 soon after the radio hit the airwaves.
5G was officially launched in China on 1 November 2019, with Iran, cruise ships and Italy being among other places where 5G was first introduced.
Quoting from the renowned anthrophosist Rudolf Steiner about the Spanish flu:

Viruses have nothing to do with it. Viruses are reactions of the poisoned cell that, in defence against the poison itself, secretes the viruses to allow the cell to survive.

Very interesting reading and quite believable!

  • Second theory is a tad tongue in cheek scenario of what could happen; a very plausible response from Vaishali Pnawar on Quora who says that China did this for gain as they could possibly buy up 30% of the shares of companies in Europe and the USA at a very low price due to economies collapsing.

All very interesting reading now that we have time on our hands during lockdown, but we must not believe all we read!

SOUTH AFRICA 21 DAY LOCKDOWN
It started with restaurants, bars and clubs not allowed to operate after 6pm.
No gatherings of more than 50 people was allowed.
Weddings and large events were postponed, costing the organisers huge amounts.

Then a 21 day Lockdown was announced:

  • We are not to leave our properties/homes for anything except to buy bare essential food items, medicine or for a medical emergency
  • No jogging nor walking the dog down the road!
  • No alcohol, cigarettes nor other luxuries are to be sold during this period; this would be a punishable offence.
  • All businesses, factories etc etc are to be closed with the exception of large food manufacturers and other essential services. Anyone ignoring this can be prosecuted.
  • Any business found to be inflating prices of essential goods, will be prosecuted!

A hairdresser who tested positive, continued running his business and has been charged with murder!

It may seem like harsh measures, but it's very necessary so the people understand just what a grave situation we are finding ourselves in.

I had already bought supplies before the announcement as we suspected this would happen; we currently have one confirmed death and 1187 active cases.

My nephew who is a trauma specialist at a large hospital keeps on reminding us just how highly infectious Covid19 is, and urges us to avoid going out, especially with his Gran living with us; Mom will be 89 in September and of course the virus can be deadly for the elderly!
Hubby being a type 1 diabetic is also at risk as is yours truly as I get bronchial asthma during bouts of flu - not being able to breathe is really frightening!

So I have done just that, stayed away from crowds!

I ordered groceries online but there’s a backlog with deliveries.
I do have a feeling online food shopping is going to become more popular after this as it’s so much easier ordering from the comfort of one’s home, so that’s one niche to explore in the days ahead as they obviously need to improve this section!

OUR B&B CLOSES ITS DOORS FOR 21 DAYS
Catastrophe I would have said a month ago, but amazing just how adaptable the human race is and also how quickly things can change!
I'm just happy that we're well and Covid-free!

We had to close our BnB during this period, so it’s a big financial blow as we rely on the income post retirement, but it's not as catastrophic as I thought at first, most of our guests have asked us to keep their deposits for a future visit!

We do have insurance which we hope will cover us for the loss of income now; our overheads are not that huge but we do have staff to pay. The government suggesting they claim unemployment benefits is not an option for us as that would be a mere pittance!

The large resorts and hotels on the other hand have massive overheads so it’s quite mind boggling to think of the repercussions on the hoteliers and their staff! It must look quite eerie now they’re deserted.

I’m still very worried about my son who is in Russia on a working holiday and is only due back early May; I just hope that he can fly out then. They have very few cases of the virus, especially in the province he is staying in, but they start their nationwide stay-at-home holiday tomorrow.

THE POSITIVES

  • We have more hours in the day to do the things we never have time for.

  • We are washing our hands more than ever before, sanitizing them as well as the groceries, the car steering wheel, door handles etc etc.

  • We are spring-cleaning with the help of our young gardener who chose to stay with us during this period as he feels safer here than in the over-crowded hostel; I have a feeling this is going to become a permanent arrangement.

  • I've been de-cluttering – why store things that I have not used for in months?
I found one or two things that’s been missing, but a load of stuff is being tossed out. Our staff will have first option and what they don’t want, will go to our local SPCA.
I feel so much lighter, as if a load’s been lifted off my shoulder and now have tons of space in my cupboards!

  • As a family, we’re now sitting together at the table over a cup of tea or lunch and actually talking; this used to be our time to catch up on Social media – terrible I know, but time was scarce before lockdown!

  • I’m finding time to read again; not on my cell phone but a real old fashioned hard copy book.
    20200329_212340.jpg

  • We’re enjoying walks through our garden again.
    20200329_161429.jpg

  • I’ve started meditating again – why do we deprive ourselves of something as good as this as we rush through life as if it’s a race! Why do I neglect this precious tool from time to time?

  • The pace has become slower.

  • There actually is time to do NOTHING now – I never have time for that luxury under normal circumstances.

  • We normally hear the sound of distant traffic, but now it is just the sound of the garden birds.

  • Us South Africans never lose our sense of humour, and the funniest memes have been doing the rounds so we've been laughing a whole lot more.

  • As I love cooking and baking, I’m having fun in the kitchen, and the family are enjoying the fruits of my labour:)

I shared some Nourishing Foods using nature’s antibiotic Nasturtium last week on the Fruits & Veggies Monday contest over on Stttttt…sounds like a swear word… but you know what I mean!

I really hope @lenasveganliving moves that contest over to Hive so I can say farewell with Just a wave good bye before the Sun sets forever!

Thank the heavens for Hive; quite amazing that this happened around the same time as Covid19 reached fever pitch! Really gave many of us hope for the future!
I will now have more time for Hiving since the spring-cleaning is almost done!

As I cannot run out to the stores on a whim, I’ve actually learned to improvise and use up what I have.
How often do we not find stuff hiding in the back of the cupboard only to find the date’s expired and then have to throw it out? Some stuff was thrown out in my de-cluttering exercise, but I also found some treasures like Pure Cacao and gorgeous Dates that I’d forgotten about.
Date Muffins for teatime

As the potatoes were running low, I simply could not throw out the potato skins, so they went into the oven with whole garlic cloves, fresh Rosemary & a sprinkling of Olive Oil and we had a nice little pre-lunch snack. Just goes to show that one can make something out of nothing!
The shelves carrying the potatoes were empty when I went shopping and I could only find a couple of loose potatoes!
We planted some a while back, so tomorrow I’ll be digging in the garden to see how they’re doing.

I bought enough flour and yeast to make bread, so look forward to the smell of hot bread baking, and will definitely be making my own Hot Cross Buns for Easter this year.
Food is the one thing that does bring comfort during stressful times not so, just the good aromas coming from the kitchen is enough to make one feel the world is not such a bad place at all!

Many will be faced with unemployment in the months ahead. but I do believe that this new world we’re entering will bring about new opportunities, we just have to be open to the changes.
I do hope that we’re all learning lessons during this time and that we will carry them forward into the future.
Above all, I'm praying that this Virus will be contained very soon!
Stay safe my friends.

This all feels like a bad dream sometimes. The most frustrating thing about all these theories is we don't know what to believe. We truly live an an era where it's so difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff. I hope you and your stay healthy and sane during all this chaos my friend! Take care.

Thank you Eric, same wishes back to you and your family as well! It really looks like one is watching a horror movie when you see what's happening in Spain and Italy! So right, one doesn't know what to believe but one thing's for sure, this virus is virulent and we have to take all the precautions!
My nephew says the masks don't really help as it gets into one eyes, onto your clothes and shoes etc, only the sick should be wearing masks to stop spreading it but people are so afraid! Of course health care workers need more protection than just a mask!
Some supermarkets here are offering drive through WhatsApp shopping, quite innovative!
I honestly did not believe my son and nephew when they were so paranoid in warning us before all the hype, but we all see now that this is a whole new virus!
Please stay safe, at least your doggie can't get it;)

We've experienced the same thing here in the US. People, at first, weren't taking it seriously at all (me included). Once it starts to touch people personally they begin to take it more seriously. I hope you all stay safe and healthy! At least we have Hive to communicate and keep ourselves busy now.

WOW ! it's great to know how SA handle the situation. Those are pretty reasonable measures. In indonesia, we are doing self-lockdown as the govt doesn't strictly impose it. It's going crazy here but I am hoping we will manage.

Also, more time for baking! sounds fun.

I do hope that the virus is contained in your country @macchiata and that everyone is as sensible as you are!
Hubby's complaining that I'm giving him too much food;);)
Thanks for popping in and stay safe!

Well, I suppose many of us are going to put on some weight after the lockdown is over. You too lizelle! stay safe and be well.
