The world has caught a cold all seem to be going Bezek. This is the corona has been declared a pandemic and the world is paying a big price. Everything has come to a halt and nothing seem to be moving, everything is closed. Europe has now become the epicenter for the disease with southern Europe taking the highest toll. Italy is the hardest hit with the death toll now in the thousand. Spain and France are also in the red. Covid 19 started in China and it seem like now the world has caught the cold. China is showing signs of recovery but there are fears of second wave of infection coming.
The United States has seen a drastic increase in infection and all the 50 states have been affected with most schools and institution been closed, the death toll has reached 500 and the government is been criticized for the slow response, most states haven’t got the testing kit and many hospitals don’t have the capacity to handle the influx of patients coming. President Trump had to acknowledge that this has become a disaster and it could get worse. The Democratic primaries are also been affected as turn out wasn’t that high and the primaries debate was held without an audience.
Much of the world economy has grounded to a halt with the tourism industry feeling the biggest hit. People are not traveling that means no tourist. Every country is closing its border and people are been told to stay indoors, this is affecting all the social space, planes are grounded, hotels cancelled and this is affecting a second economy that depend on people moving around. This include taxis, buses, restaurants, bars, street vendor sand street artist. The sports and entertainment industry are also on the death bed. Most sporting event across the globe have been cancelled and there is a possibility that the Olympics will be cancelled. This will hurt the Japanese economy badly. The movie industry which depends on ticket prices from people going to theaters is also affected. The world economy is built on social space and if we take away the social space it means we are doomed as a people.
This lockdown has forced people to be creative, churches are moving online to minister to people. The entertainment industry is learning to record without live audience as we have seen with the late night comedy shows. The Kenyan government has pushed the mobile payment companies to cut their mobile money payment charges as more people are been asked to stop using cash and embrace mobile money. Kenya is a global leader in mobile money with 70% of its people use mobile money like m-pesa to buy and sell goods and service.
As the crisis continue to hit the world the winner of it all will be technology since it will be the way people will interact with the rest of the world. We should hope and pray this pandemic comes to an end as we are likely to see more people suffer directly or indirectly. As one writer said , the world is taking a break from all the abuse it has received from us humans since everything is grinding to a halt.
humans have entered a survival mode and panic seem to have set in. most shoppers have been buying things in bulk and most supplies in some retailers have run out. i went to the supermarket the other day and there was no parking space and the line were ludicrous. it was a panic buying as if its the end of the world. most of the stuff had run out since they were in high demand, tissues , bread, sanitizers, soaps and drinking water had ran out. Most of the panic buying is been driven by misinformation from social media. Most people dont understand whats happen and the mainstream media isnt helping much since this is the daily news
To top it all Covid19 has put a pin in the enormous debt bubble created since 2008. Whilst all eyes are on the pandemic a financial crisis is also unfolding.
