What is Debt

Debt simply means what you owe someone.
Debt is usually considered a very sensitive issue, nobody wants to talk about it nor ever admit they are in debt till it gets out of control.

If you're in debt and you are finding it hard to cope, it's important to deal with the problem straight away - the longer you ignore your debts, the worse the situation becomes.

Basic Steps To Help You Deal With A Debt

  • make a list of everything you owe
You need to know exactly how much you owe and to whom you owe it to.

  • put your debts in order of importance
According to there order of importance, the most important ones are called Priority Debt, they are the debts where serious action can be taken against you if you don't pay what you owe.

  • work out a personal budget
Know what your income and monthly budget is and then work out a stipulated amount of money allocated to paying back your debt. A budget will help you decide what you can reasonably afford to repay your creditors, so you need to be realistic.

  • talk to your creditors
Make sure you deal with your priority creditors first.Once you know what you can afford to repay, let them in on your situation and what you're going to do about it.

  • have another source of income
To ensure you pay-off your debts on time and still have something to fall back on, I would strongly recommend you have another source of income; in this case one can be used to pay off all loans while you live on the rest.
