Per cominciare vorrei spiegare un pò di cose, dovete sapere che una delle problematiche principali a cui si va in contro se si sceglie di vivere in un camper è l’usura della cassa e degli interni (al contrario se si sceglie di camperizzare un camion o un furgone dove si può prevenire, ad esempio con la scelta di materiali di qualità). Questo problema deriva dal semplice fatto che i camper non sono ne progettati ne costruiti per viverci ma per fare vacanze più o meno lunghe. Per questo motivo vengono scelti per l'arredamento materiali leggeri (ad esempio il compensato per i mobili) anche per gravare meno sulla spesa del carburante, soluzione però comoda in caso di una vacanza ma scomoda per viverci, per via appunto del deterioramento frequente degli interni (capirete nel corso dell’articolo cosa intendo).
Per quanto riguarda il nostro caso comincerei dividendo in tre categorie i lavori che abbiamo effettuato e che stiamo effettuando:
(1)le riparazioni al motore;
(2)le riparazione alla cassa e agli interni;
(3)le modifiche.
Today I will tell you about the works and changes we had to make to the camper.
To begin with, I would like to explain a few things, you must know that one of the main problems to which you go against if you choose to live in a camper is the wear and tear of the case and the interior (on the contrary if you choose to camp out a truck or a van where it can be prevented, for example by choosing quality materials). This problem derives from the simple fact that the campers are neither designed nor built to live in them but to make holidays more or less long. For this reason, light materials (for example, plywood for furniture) are chosen for the furniture, also to weigh less on the cost of fuel, a solution that is comfortable in the case of a holiday but uncomfortable to live in, due to the frequent deterioration of the interior (you will understand in the course of the article what I mean).
As for our case, I would begin by dividing the work we have carried out and which we are carrying out into three categories:
engine repairs;
repairs to the cashier and interiors;
changes.
(1)Le riparazioni al motore.
Sarò breve visto che non sono meccanico, non ho le conoscenze e non ho fatto io il lavoro!
Si sono presentati vari problemi nell’ultimo periodo che hanno portato alla soluzione più diretta e, sembrerà strano, economica: cambiare l’intero motore passando da un turbo a un motore aspirato!
Poi abbiamo cambiato le ruote, che anche loro erano alla fine della loro vita.
E visto che non c’è due senza tre abbiamo dovuto cambiare le pinze dei freni (e le pasticche) e stiamo aspettando la pompa dei freni!
Per fortuna parte dei lavori sono stati fatti da amici!
(1)Engine repairs
I'll be short since I'm not a mechanic, I don't have the knowledge and I didn't do the job!
Various problems have arisen in the last period that have led to the most direct and, it will seem strange, economic solution: change the entire engine from a turbo to an aspirated engine!
Then we changed the wheels, which were also at the end of their lives.
The third job was to change the brake calipers (and the pads) and we are waiting for the brake pump!
Fortunately, some of the work was done by friends!
(2) Le riparazioni alla cassa e agli interni.
Qua devo fare una piccola premessa: questo inverno, mentre il camper era fermo per i motivi sopra elencati, siamo partiti un pò più di un mese in francia per lavorare con la fortuna di aver trovato un patron (datore di lavoro) che ci ha fornito un alloggio. Durante quel mese abbiamo incaricato il ragazzo cghe ci ha comprato i pannelli solari di smontarli e prenderli, ma non ha tappato i buchi dove erano fissati, di conseguenza la pioggia ha fatto gravi danni.
Il primo lavoro, quindi, è stato tappare i buchi di ancoraggio con dello stucco vetroresina, per poi rimettere a posto tutti i lati del tettuccio con della gomma liquida, in modo da evitare ulteriori infiltrazioni. Infine abbiamo passato uno strato di catramina per proteggere la plastica del tettuccio dalle intemperie.
Il secondo grande lavoro è stato rifare quasi tutta la struttura e l’isolamento del tetto poiché era marcito per via delle infiltrazioni. Per rifare la struttura abbiamo utilizzato delle assi di legno , mentre per l’isolamento ci siamo affidati a dei pannelli isolanti di polistirolo e all’immancabile schiuma poliuretanica.
Fortunatamente l’interno non era particolarmente danneggiato a eccezione di qualche sportello da cambiare e della muffa che abbiamo dovuto eliminare dando una moltitudine di passate di antimuffa.
Passiamo a un altro punto che ero indeciso se mettere sotto la voce riparazioni o modifiche: la pompa dell’acqua! Abbiamo cambiato la pompa dell’acqua perchè quella vecchia era rotta, però abbiamo deciso di cambiarla con una a immersione da barca. Abbiamo fatto questa scelta perchè, dopo aver letto un po di pareri e idee su internet, siamo arrivati alla conclusione che era la più utile per vari motivi: è molto più economica di una pompa a pressostato (di cui sono solitamente equipaggiati i camper), è più difficile che si rompa e per la sua capacità e pressione minore aiuta a razionare l’acqua, fattore molto importante quando non si ha a disposizione un attacco all’acqua vicino e se non si vuole spostare il camper troppo di frequente! Noi per ora abbiamo lasciato tutto il resto dell’impianto così com’era, però con una pompa del genere andrebbero cambiati anche i rubinetti con dei rubinetti che attivino la pompa nel momento in cui si apre l’acqua, noi abbiamo attaccato la pompa a un interruttore che dobbiamo accendere ogni volta che vogliamo utilizzare l'acqua. Nonostante questo piccolo intoppo siamo molto orgogliosi del lavoro!
(2)Repairs to the cashier and interiors.
Here I have to make a small premise: this winter, while the camper was stopped for the reasons listed above, we left a little more than a month in France to work with the luck of having found a patron (employer) who provided us accommodation. During that month we commissioned the boy who bought us the solar panels to disassemble and take them, but he did not plug the holes where they were fixed, consequently the rain did serious damage.
The first job, therefore, was to plug the anchoring holes with fiberglass putty, to then replace all the sides of the roof with liquid rubber, in order to avoid further infiltrations. Finally we passed a layer of tar to protect the plastic of the roof from the weather.
The second major job was to redo almost all the structure and insulation of the roof as it was rotten due to infiltrations. To redo the structure we used wooden planks, while for insulation we relied on insulating polystyrene panels and the inevitable polyurethane foam.
Fortunately, the interior was not particularly damaged except for a few doors to be changed and the mold that we had to eliminate by giving a multitude of anti-mold passes.
let's move on to another point that I was undecided whether to put repairs or modifications under the heading: the water pump! We changed the water pump because the old one was broken, but we decided to change it with a boat immersion pomp. We made this choice because, after reading some opinions and ideas on the internet, we came to the conclusion that it was the most useful for various reasons: it is much cheaper than a pressure switch pump (which campers are usually equipped with), it is more difficult for it to break and due to its capacity and lower pressure it helps to ration the water, a very important factor when you do not have an attack on the water nearby and if you do not want to move the camper too frequently! For now we have left all the rest of the system as it was, however with a pump like that the taps should also be changed with taps that activate the pump when the water opens, we have attached the pump to a switch that we have to turn on every time we want to use water. Despite this small hitch we are very proud of the job!

(3) Le modifiche
Le modifiche che abbiamo apportato sono tutte mirate all’ottimizzazione di tutto quello che è necessario per vivere il più comodamente possibile.
Uno dei lavori che ha dato più soddisfazioni è stato l’impianto elettrico!
Abbiamo dovuto rifare tutto l’impianto elettrico perchè i topi si erano mangiati i cavi, per fortuna un amico eletricista ci ha dato una grande mano con le sue conoscenze nel progettare e installare tutto l’impianto.
Come vi ho detto abbiamo venduto i pannelli solari che erano montati (2 pannelli policristallini da 100W) e ne abbiamo montato 1 monocristallino da 240W. Cambiando il pannello abbiamo però dovuto cambiare anche il regolatore di carica con uno più efficiente che ci permette di far caricare il pannello al massimo delle sue possibilità e permettendoci in futuro di collegare un’altra batteria per immagazzinare più energia e di conseguenza utilizzare elettrodomestici che richiedono più Watt (già ora possiamo usare il minipimer).
Gli altri acquisti che hanno migliorato notevolmente la vita nel camper sono stati i due inverter che abbiamo installato uno vicino al divano e uno vicino la cabina.
Un'altra scelta che abbiamo fatto è stata passare i cavi in vista, ovviamente li stiamo mettendo in delle canalette, ma questa scelta l’abbiamo presa per permetterci in futuro di aggiustare qualsiasi problema con più facilità sacrificando un pochino il fattore estetico.
Per le luci abbiamo optato per posizionare due strisce a led (le abbiamo messe multicolore per nostra preferenza) e due faretti anch'essi a led.
(3)Changes
The changes we made are all aimed at optimizing everything that is necessary to live as comfortably as possible.
One of the most satisfying jobs was the electrical system!
We had to redo the whole electrical system because the mice had eaten the cables, luckily an electrician friend gave us a great hand with his knowledge in designing and installing the entire system.
As I said, we sold the solar panels that were mounted (2 100W polycrystalline panels) and we mounted 1 240W monocrystalline panel. By changing the panel, however, we also had to change the charge controller with a more efficient one that allows us to charge the panel to its fullest potential and allowing us in the future to connect another battery to store more energy and consequently use appliances that require more Watts (we can now use the hand mixer).
The other purchases that significantly improved the life in the camper were the two inverters that we installed one near the sofa and one near the cabin.
Another choice we made was to pass the cables in sight, obviously we are putting them in channels, but we made this choice to allow us to fix any problem in the future more easily by sacrificing the aesthetic factor a little.
For the lights we opted to place two led strips (we put them multicolored for our preference) and two spotlights also led.

Le altre modifiche che abbiamo apportato non sono della stessa importanza degli impianti che vi ho raccontato ma molto utili per ottimizzare gli spazi, vi mostrerò qualche idea.
