In the end, I decided to name today's drawing “Dimensions.” Here is how it happened:
This is going to be the “DMT cross” that quite a few psychonauts have seen. In the photo you can also see my Noodler's Triple Tail fountain pen. It is a really great pen for the price, but a lot of the time, it doesn't write—or draw—very well out of the box. The ebonite feed requires heat setting, but fortunately Brian Goulet made a video explaining how to do it. I actually did it about three times. Now the ink flow is phenomenal.
I wanted to make sure to get the edges of the “area of approximate orthogonality” in the frame.
Approaching from the lower right, we observe one group of bubbles in the process of penetrating to the heart of the cross. The huge multitude of bubbles in the upper right quadrant is getting ready to penetrate the upper left quadrant. I was going to name the drawing “Penetration” at this juncture, but when it was all done, it looked much more like an illustration of how dimensions seem to work in hyperspace, so I changed my mind about the title.
It was here that I realized this one was having trouble coming alive. Then I signed and dated it, and we all know what that means.
As soon as I have committed to the piece…
…life enters the scene! An ant may be more of a robot, but it is nonetheless alive, even by a very strict and unimaginative definition of the word.
Who says I can't have fun with the date?
The language in that position just screamed turquoise, so I went with it. At this moment, I realized that I had here exactly one language for each color of the rainbow.
For this drawing I used my Noodler's Triple Tail fountain pen with Bernanke Black ink and Arteza colored pencils on Rhodia paper.
