Wednesday's are pretty nice days mostly; they bode well. It's the middle of the week so the mountain has been climbed and it's all plain sailing down the other side to the weekend. This Wednesday is that and more for me. It marks the mid-point of the four week notice period that will end my employment with my current company. It's a downhill run to the end of the week and the end of several years of employment
I've had blocks of additional time on my hands as I'm delegating a lot more work out to my team and have had the chance to catch up with a few people I've not seen for a while. Today I saw a friend of mine who has been a police officer for a couple years. I know she wasn't enjoying the job but had thought it would pass; she called on Monday and wanted to catch up for a chat as she needed to bounce some stuff off me. I said yes of course.
I'll not go into details but essentially she feels trapped in a job that didn't deliver what was promised, has intrinsic flaws and is taking too much of a toll on her emotional state. She went as far as saying she wasn't suited to it and was not job-effective for that reason, also that she was border-line resentful of it. At one point she teared-up a little, more from frustration, but overall I think she was pretty honest about her situation and committed to the way forward, She just needed someone to bounce it off. I totally understood what she said; the job is difficult and with nutbaggery cascading down from the top; not good.
Before I made my recent decision to move in new directions I spent a little time in self-reflection; those sharp-eyed people out there will possibly have 'seen' that occasionally in my posts. It wasn't a decision I took lightly and many factors were considered, not just financial. I said as much to my friend probing to see what she'd done to come to her decision and was pleased to hear she had done so herself, reflected and evaluated, then plotted a course forward which she feels is going to be more fulfilling and suited to her character and make-up. She's proceeding with confidence and clarity.
It made me think about how people see themselves and the things they do, or do not do, in personal life, career and relationships.
So many I know don't take the time to evaluate their wants and needs, or simply stay in place because that seems easier, less complicated or uncomfortable. Gaining perspective will always make for better decisions though and getting a little arms-length distance from oneself, emotionally, is required. It allows us to see the bigger picture and to make decisions on all factors; these decisions will be better ones for it.
Humans are capable of great things, all of us, even if that thing is creating a better reality for ourselves, a more fulfilled life. It often starts with seeing oneself and one's situation more clearly, reflecting and evaluating...Gaining a better perspective. Getting a better view.
That's what was up on Wednesday, how about you? Did you look at you today? What did you see or learn and what did you do because of it?

It's the devil you know ... that kept in one place for the longest time
Having said that, if the company had not shut down I'd probably still be there, making it my priority at a cost.
Have a good Hump Day @galenkp
It's that sometimes, the comfort of the known. I've never really been one to default to that though - I'm a bit of a go get stuff done sort of chap.
Hump day! Yay! It's almost 16:00 and I'm heading home in a few minutes. Not a bag gig.
I love the idea of going with the flow and just doing and I am a little closer to that these days 😊
Yes, it's a nice way to be I guess; I'm a little similar and at my age feel it's warranted. I'm ancient.
<33
The devil??? Would that be the boss of Belazarkin and Taspirin???
Anyway, seems like you were in a really bad spot!!!
You sound like you've met them for tea @wrestlingdesires ;p
I wouldn't say it was a bad spot... I loved what I did, but I also let the company take advantage of me and out of fear of losing the job, I gave in to a lot of nonsense...
lol no, they're characters in one of my stories! Someone was determined that Just Down The Road wasn't finished!
Oh, it's a shame that you put up with drama :(
Nutbaggery cascading from the top sucks, moreso when you can't cheerfully hack around it (not that I would ever do anything like that).
Your friend has a great sounding board. Sometimes people just need that little bit of a push/confidence boost to proceed with a decision they've already thought through and made :)
Nice composition with the photo :)
Yes...I mostly listened to be honest. Prompted her to talk more. She ended up going in circles and coming back to the decision she'd already made. She said to me, G-dog, you're so good at working things out. I actually did nothing, just kept sort of saying, hmm, and what are you going to do? And also, hmm, what are your options? Not so directly of course. Worked out well and I got a free coffee. Lol.
Grazie mille. Total fluke!
I feel like you're actually doing it instinctively but you're not quite sure/aware of what you're doing so when it works that well it seems like a fluke XP
I see we have a similar way of troubleshooting XD though how you deal with the people that want you to tell them "the" answer? x_x
I trap them in a time-space continuum of what are your options and what are you going to do. The reason is that I don't ever want to be seen to make a decision for them. I'm not one to catch people's problems, rather, *reflect them back, and make them take ownership. The reason is that if they don't come to their own decisions they have the ability to blame someone other than themselves for the failure of those decisions.
Instinctive happenstance. Yep, that's it. :)
Listening is key. Asking questions is another key. You redirected her back to herself, that is most helpful, since she is the only one who knows what's best for her. She just had to look inside to see it.
Best way for it...Means people have to take ownership. I'm all for that.
Seconding taking ownership, another line in my code book. Did you gain secret access to it? You seem to be familiar with it already.
The tome of wisdom? Yeah, totally stole it!
Um, no. It's my personal code that I've created. If you think I stole that, you need to check your soul age.
So true, I have been doing the same for years, by choosing to work from home since last 11 years or so. I always said its difficult to work from home than office, and people were thinking otherwise. Covid-19 taught them the reality, and now they tell me, how can I manage. I choose this for a reason, my company has tried to send me abroad many a times , but I am happy with my family, a more fulfilled life...
It's a more satisfied person who sees themselves with perspective - Clearly you're living proof of that.
Had I read only the paragraph about intrinsic flaws, resentful and frustrated, and feeling trapped, I would've guessed you're speaking of a new home owner in a bubble.
I get confused sometimes between miserable purchases and the miserable means to achieve them.
Yep, I can relate.
"It's only after we've lost everything we're free to do anything" - Brad Pitt.
Not sure how I got to this point in the comment section or why I felt the need to quote one of my favorite lines in one of my favorite movies but I'm statistically happier when all of my earthly possessions fit in a carry-on.
Yeah, that drifting feeling is a good one.
There's a track I love, a remake of an original. It makes me want to go...
Probably not your thing...But I think you understand the emotion.
My thing? Curious to know what that is.
That track pretty much says it all. I'm on the treadmill right now, that video worked great.
Yeah, like him.
Such an awesome track.
On the tready? Nice. Enjoy your workout.
My advice to her is to review her options, plan for a place to land and then RUN as fast as she can. Too many folks in that profession stick around longer than they should out of some sense of obligation, or that they are saving the world. Sounds like she's paid her dues, time to hand over the reins to others. IMHO once a person has gotten to that stage, they tend to get more and more resentful, more and more depressed, and it just becomes a downward spiral. Life is too short, if you're not enjoying it, make a change or make a Change.
This is sound advice and I agree totally. I was careful not to advise though, I was just a sounding board. She asked my opinion of course and in a loose way I gave it being mindful that her path forward needed to be self-guided to some degree. There is, as you can imagine, a lot left out of this post for privacy reasons, however I think the message comes through.
Your comment above goes for most professions too, but with the thin blue line it's so very relevant.
I didn't do any reflecting today, but I do have a post partly written!
I glad that you decided to do what was right for you :)
A wise man once said: A post partly written is better than a post not begun.
Ok, not wise...Just a man. 🤣
lol! Those are still wise words!!!

I'm so pleased! The alternative to being alive is less than inviting at this stage of my life.
Yeah we do not want zombies on Hive. 😂
This is a good point. Zombies need not apply ☺️
Exactly. 👍🖖
The world has moved a lot from what career/job is good and secure to what career/job is suitable for you.
Even a well paying and secure job will feel blood sucking if it is not suitable for you.
Couple of years back, when I was struggling a lot in my career, I thought, I should have been a doctor, or a lawyer. They always seem to have enough work and money😅
Maybe, if I was into one of those, I would have spent tons of money, years of studies, and still end up hating my job, strugling with my work.
But with time, most people figure out what's best for them, some pursue it, some keep hating their job and life.
BTW, how many times have you changed your career, if you have? Or you are in the same industry/career from the beginning?
I agree with your commenting above, can't find anything to add really.
Hmm, more questions. Lol.
Well, I've done three main things in life but had a few jobs within them, different employers. I've been in my current industry (property) for twenty years.
Haha, sometimes I talk too much, but only when I like the content😅
Haha, nicely said.
What you see first thing in the morning is not necessarily what you will see towards the end of the day. It's what we make of each day that counts.
Well said indeed.
so beautiful view❤🌺 :)
It's a lovely view, a nice place to be.
The view is spectacular! It could be my every day and it wouldn't hurt my feelings. I can almost hear the waves crashing on the rocks.
Le sigh.
I love the ocean and used to dream that I would grow up to be a mermaid. (Doesn't everyone?) I never did graduate to that fin, but, I still love the water.
It says a lot when a friend chooses you to bounce things off of. I am sure it is because you are a good listener and you give good advice or at least give them something to think about. Honestly speaking, I'll bet less than half of the people that are polled don't like their job, but, like the money. That doesn't say much about us, honestly. I would rather take half the pay I receive now and take a job that would satisfy my needs/wants/desires. Lucky for me, I love my job and the people that I work with. I know not everyone can say that, and I know how lucky I am.
It was a nothing day to be honest. I worked on issues and got home late. But, no issues left! So, it is all good!
It's a cracking spot Swiggley. Lol. Sorry, I'm in a dumb mood. Also...Yeah, I like mermaids. Had a crush on Ariel from that cartoon, The little mermaid for a while. Lol.
My thoughts exactly, especially considering my recent actions. It's great that you have a good work-sitch. That's what I'm after. The money isn't too important.
Haha! That is great! It beats the alternative, right? :)) Who doesn't love mermaids? Honestly, what is not to love about them. One day, I will earn my tail!
Having a job that you love going into every day is important to me. Money is one of those things in life we all need, but, I have been lucky with managing it, and knowing I don't have to work so hard takes the pressure off. Besides, I like being bossy. :))
Kidding. I don't need the head trip.
Mermaids 💙
life is far more important than many things. Money? Yeah, it's required of course (mostly) in modern society but being a slave to it? Not my style.
Life is too precious to waste on something that doesn't make you happy. Money has its place, but will never rule my life. When I become a mermaid, none of this will matter. :)
Hey, mermaids like money and treasure too! You can use your savings to buy jewels for your cave!
No! Take it back! That sounds like work!
Lol...Yeah, just gotta worry about those shells staying in place I guess.
Killjoy! That sounds like work.
I love the view..you can tell the calmness of the see looking at the picture...the atmosphere seem calm too...well done
Yes, it's a very calm and relaxing place...The ebb and flow of the tide, the sounds of waves on the shore. A great spot.
The view indeed. I could stare at such a scenery for hours without getting bored.
It was a beautiful spot to sit and contemplate life and love.

This post hits home. Creating a better version of myself almost seems to me is just like an idea that will just remain.. an idea. Being used to disappointments here and there, I may have developed comfortability in just simply accepting that I have reached a stagnant state.
But yes, you are correct. We should take the time to evaluate and understand what it is we truly want and need for ourselves. Because sometimes, we could want things for ourselves when in fact, it is to please other people. Personally, my wants are driven by seeking validation from my family which is mostly a hindrance, not a motivator. This is why purposely working on improving ourselves for ourselves is important because pleasing others can be a never-ending journey -and this is something I am trying to learn every day.
Good luck on your future endeavors and thank you for sharing!
We all have disappointments in life; it's how we see them that matters though. We have the power to affect our own attitudes however people spend most of their time trying to effect or control other things. Control the controllable things, that is, our attitudes, and the rest will move in the right direction...Or not. Failure though...It prepares us for success and we can learn from it. You might like to look at my recent post, Think like a Viking: Thirteen which I will post in about an hour. It talks about this very subject.
Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it.
thanks for the publication friend @galenkp, excellent reflection.
Thank you for your comment.
Looking at myself is a daily habit...an all day one. Today, reminded again of the simple little small things that bring so much pleasure. A smile, few words exchanged, some jokes, small acts of kindness....with strangers. I call it random convos with strangers because they are random with whomever, whenever.
That's only one thing from Wednesday. The rest is censored.
It's these that often mean the most. Medium ones too.
Yes. Medium ones.....thinking about that
What do you classify as medium ones? Do you have an example you can cite for my reference notes? Yes, I'm serious.
Not as small as small, but not as big as big. Just...Medium.
WelllllllllllllllThat's a limited spectrum consisting of only three marker points, rather like....
Nine, I'm a limited spectrum.
Lies, all lies, never buying that pack of lying flies that don't fly Galenkp.
my prose is starting to suck too?
I enjoyed reading your post - inspired me to write about my Wednesday - I had the best day, yesterday with a friend - taking a boat trip.
Wednesday boat trips are the best; it's great you had a good time. 🙂
Yes, it was a great day out - to clear the mind and come back refreshed and ready to start anew
I could have done with a little myself. Oh well, I worked instead. Someone has to. 😭
Haha - yes - I think I earned my break because I work very hard most of the time
It looks so beautiful
Oh yes, it certainly is.
It was truly beautiful and so refreshing
I get it mate, but not even a hello? Not even a comment about my post? A little introduction of yourself maybe? Just "hey vote my post!". Hmm, where I come from I'm not used to such demands, albeit with a cursory please attached to it.
I feel disinclined to acquiesce to your request sir.
Why am I thinking he is going to turn into a comment farmer :( ...
Probable. I know how to deal with those though.
How do we cure them? They turn into a plague when unchecked :( ...
It's difficult. Education and suggestion. Downvoting. Usually once exposed they disappear. Sometimes only to start a new account and begin all over. Persistence was always a strong point for me though.
What's the point once they know better in repeating it...They'll never even reach $10 for all those hours of copy paste submit!
