Is there no end to this pandemic?

Here's a quick timeline of COVID-19 in India. The 1st case was registered on 30th Jan in the state of Kerala.

We crossed 100 cases on 14th March
1000 cases on 28th March
10000 cases on 13th April
20000 cases on 21st April
Today on 28th April we've crossed 30000 cases.

Infact, over 1 Million cases have been recorded just in USA alone and more than 3 Million globally. India moved up to the 15th spot today while China is down to the 10th!

Our cases are finally starting to spike up and similar to what was seen in countries amongst the top 10. A few Indian states are now a hot bed for the virus with community transmission in full swing.

Yet, there are many Covidiots who get away with talking absolute rubbish and this is prevalent across the globe unfortunately.

Sadly, many are backed by the government and in many cases, they are the people running our governments.

Ironic much?

I've been tracking the data around this pandemic from its early stages. I remember looking at the GIS data when China had a handful of cases and wondering what would happen to India when this arrives.

It wasn't long until we had our first case and now nearly 4 months after we are nowhere close to winning this battle.

Today, the world economy is taking a beating and there isn't an end in sight just yet.

One might argue that some countries are faring better than others. Sure they are! However, countries with large populations have a lot of challenges to deal with. It won't take much to open up the borders and the economy but without a proper solution we'd be at the risk of another major wave of the virus.

Here, we've been in a lockdown for just over a month now, but it seems like it will be the new status quo for a considerable time to come. Especially, if India too gets into the top 10 list of countries with the highest number of COVID-19 infections.

At Hive, we have users from all over the world so here's my question to you: Where are you from and how is your nation coping up with this crisis? Are you and your family doing okay?

Sort:

i am from Nigeria and it is worse over there, the high rate of poverty is so much that people cant afford to stay at home, the medical facilities is so poor that out of a population of 300 million people, only 1500 people could get tested daily nationwide. in a space of one month we have recorded more than a thousand cases. i am so worried for my country.

Damn! It saddens me to hear that. I hope the government gets its act together and ramps up the response to this threat in your country.

It is quite premature to make any predictions about the end of the epidemic. Unfortunately, we don't know. We note, for a few days a decrease in the progression of the epidemic, not at all a regression. The epidemic will continue and it will take weeks.

It's definitely premature to expect this to get better soon. Many of my friends used to think we'd get this under control within a week or two. They've all shut up since then. I think it will take a few months to get this under control especially with the size of our population and various challenges in enforcing social distancing etc.

I share with this opinion but also this epidemic will become a seasonal disease like the winter flu, we just have to find the vaccine and it will be fine I hope.

I must say this is increasing day by day. Everyday number of cases are above 1600 now. Hopefully in Gurgaon area, there are very few cases. Hope this recovers soon.

I think today we recorded the highest cases in a single day of over 1900 in India. It's definitely worrying.

Yeah true! It's better to keep ourselves safe.

Clearly WHO and other big entities have failed to invent a cure against this virus. The virus is mutating and new symptoms are emarging out as i heard from the news. Tje nation is already locked down for over a month. In west bengal, here i live.. people are already lacking food as most of the ration shops are not giving enough food. I dont know how many more days will they survive like this.
Govt are forcing only on lock down but in here not enough testing are being made.
I just hope we will recover this satanic situation without a big breakdown.

Crazy situation. The government response in many area is certainly lacking. I just hope they get their act together soon.

Looking at this situation happening, it seems the pandemic is going to head into around September

I guess my Mumbai and many more cities will celebrate Diwali from Home.

Yesterday my friend tested positive for corona (In Kerala). He is now under treatment and struggling a lot to take breath.

It is worrying. I'm here at a remote village in Bihar with my wife and with no good hospital facility. If it spreads here, I'm damn sure there is no escape.

i wish your friend a quick recovery. make sure you stay safe and practise all recommended precautions and guidelines that have been given. we know it is very difficult right now but good hygiene practise would go a long way to help.

may the world get healed

Damn! Stay safe and take care of yourself bro. I hope your friend recovers soon. It's a scary situation to be in for sure.

Im from Ghana and im doing great with my family. In my region, there has been zero cases recorded so far but in total, there has been 1550 cases in Ghana. Hopefully we can contain the spread with the wearing of nose mask and following social distancing protocols

I'm glad to hear that your region is doing fine and your family is safe and sound. My area is doing okay and cases are few at the moment.

I'm from UP, India🇮🇳 and facing all the things above mentioned. Well perhaps its not crossed 30k yet but may crossed today. There a big reasons for such a wide spread of corona, i.e some people's stupidity. They are not yet taking it seriously. I don't know why😩? This makes me irritate. India should not cross🙏 more than 50k in any condition, becoz if this happen then there will be a big tragedy for all of us.

I think we have an extremely unreliable government at place at the centre and they are just as responsible with all the mess they made by ignoring the first signs of this crisis from end of January. To make matters worse, they gave this a communal angle through their propaganda outlets causing more polarisation amongst the society. If that wasn't bad enough, ignorant people across all religious beliefs have been just as irresponsible across the country and sadly some mainstream media engaging in communalism is also to be blamed for not taking the government to task when several experts warned about where we would head early on. In any case, COVID19 will continue to blow up across our nation as many people haven't taken this seriously, and there's a lot more the government can do to tackle the situation. At this time all we can do is take care of ourselves and ensure our immediate family, close neighbours are all exercising caution when they are in public spaces.

Great to see you back on the mark. I hope to see now your daily posts..

Thanks man. :)

Thank you Bhai just because of you I am in a great position.

I think the government should have an exit plan because just with the lockdown you cannot control the virus and then there are Covidiots who just don't follow lockdowns. The exit plan can be, that the district which has been in Red or Orange zone should be packed where no on eis allowed to come out whereas in the green zone the normal activity can happen but with restricted staff and with proper precautions.

True that! But given the fact in some cases incubation period has been even a month it's won't be easy to relax the lockdown in a densely populated country as ours without risking another wave on infections.

The problem is Corona Virus will impact us very badly because we cannot extend the lockdown indefinitely. I am more concerned about Mumbai because of the Slum Area.

Seriously, it is one of the black phase in human life, yesterday I went to an ATM and was scared of using it. Not sure from where and how it can attck. The number is u creasing rapidly everyday and staying home is the only solutuin

I completely understand what you feel. I expected this to blow up early in Feb itself and I haven't been to an ATM in 2 months. I always use cards, and all my transactions are generally digital. I make purchases under 2000 when grocery shopping so i can use the tap function instead of pressing the buttons on the POS machine. My friends thought I was being paranoid and over cautious in Feb, but now they know how serious the issue is. Who wants to risk getting an infection and then end up quarantined indefinitely. Not to mention unknowingly spread the virus to others.

We already have case through ATM in Patna where a ATM cashier spread the virus to family member. One to 11 it spread very rapidly.....stay home is only way out and there is no alternate to get over this

I am from India and as you already have told the amount of cases which are at its peak. anyway many covidiots exists we can't do anything about it. but yes country is facing huge economical thrash due to the mandatory precautional lockdown. Hope we may come out of this pandemic as soon as possible. and restore our dropping fiat.
Hopefully you and your family are doing good. Keep flourishing.

Hope you and your family are safe too. Cheers :)

Today, the world economy is taking a beating and there isn't an end in sight just yet.

Reading your post at 3 am thinking what happened to my sleep schedule.

It kinda feels like a whole new world now.

Are you and your family doing okay?

Two words: losing it. But also accepted this as a way of life.

Hope and wish your family is doing great, FP!

Yeah, the sleep schedule is rekt for sure!

Hope you are good and safe, please take care of yourself and your family.

I'm fine. Hope you and your family are also fine. :)
