Hello, hiver I don’t know who is reading this now and who is going through the same issue now, but the only thing I can say is that following the right principles on diabetes won’t take the life of your loved ones.
In March 2019 was called on the phone by my brother that mum has been hit by a vehicle. Before now we have been managing her diabetes situation very well until tragedy struck. Rushed her to a navy hospital where she was stabilized. Paid consultation fee for an orthopaedic specialist as they didn't have. He came and asked that a scan should be conducted on that leg. The result of the scan gave him an inside by advising that I should move her to a bigger hospital so that the cost won’t be enormous for me. He was God sent and I didn’t know.
I applied for a transfer, but the hospital refused that I must sign a form stating I am taking mum out against their medical practice which I did. We moved to the new hospital but met obstacles that they no longer have bed space. The doctor on duty saw how exhausted I looked and mum helpless urged the nurses immediately to create a space and finally, we had one. This particular year 2019 was the most terrible year for me and my family and to make it worse I lost my job the same year. Mum's treatment commenced and the hospital requested she should be operated on to correct the fracture sustained as a result of the accident. She was taken to the theatre for several surgeries as her wound refused to heal properly and this prolonged our stay in the hospital.
However, the final surgery proved to be a success as skin grafting was also initiated to cover some skin parts. Money kept for building a house for my parents went into this treatment and more than 8 months was our stay there. Finally, our predicament turns to joy in later days.

Many might not know what diabetes is: let me quickly share it here:
Diabetes: a collection of infections that result in too much sugar in the blood is called diabetes. when you have diabetes, it simply means your pancreas does not produce any insulin or enough insulin.
Types of diabetes:
(1)Type 1 diabetes: this fettle, the pancreas generates little or no insulin.
(2)Type 2 diabetes: this fettle alters the way the body processes blood sugar.
(3)Prediabetes: when sugar is high in the blood but not high to be called type 2 diabetes.
(4)Gestational diabetes: this condition occurs during pregnancy in some women and sometimes goes away after birth but they are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Causes of diabetes

  1. Type 1 diabetes is caused by an attack by the body on insulin-producing cells in the pancreas and this tends to cause an increase in sugar levels in the bloodstream.
    It can be genetically motivated.
It can also be caused by a virus attack on the immune system.
    1. In Type 2 diabetes here the insulin is being prevented to work the way it should be in the body cells thus allowing much sugar in the bloodstream. It simply means your body cells are resistant to insulin which can’t be overcome because the pancreas can’t produce more.
3)Gestational diabetes: The placenta produces a hormone that makes the body cells resistant to insulin during pregnancy.
      Symptoms of diabetes
1)It makes you thirsty all the time
      2)it causes blurred vision.
      3)Frequent urination.
      4)slow healing of wounds
5)Causes numbness in the hand or feet.
      Complications of diabetes:
When the sugar level remains high in your bloodstream, it causes damage to the nerve, eye, foot, and kidney and could result in cardiovascular issues too.
When you notice all symptoms above kindly visit your doctor or the hospital for a proper diagnosis.
I am happy that mum defeated leg amputation. I encourage anyone who is going through this moment that it is not over yet but ensures you take medical advice seriously as it will help in controlling its damaging effect of it.
