In Nigeria, most households have what they call Sunday rice.
It is a special rice cooked for the family to dine and feast. Usually Jollof rice.
However, not everyone home subscribes to the Sunday rice rule. To be honest I was obvious to this rule till I met different people from around the country.
I guess background influences many things. The Sunday rice special rule as I first heard was about cooking a proper jollot rice with specially cooked chicken. Not to be condescending but as I heard these homes do this because for most of the week they ration. But in that day they eat like it's Thanksgiving.
But as I met more people, they used this rule not because of rationing but because it has become a norm.
As Sunday is one of those days with less activities hence there is enough time to make the special Sunday rice.
back to that topic of this blog
In my home, Sundays are mostly for pastries. The oven gets busy on sundays from making bread rolls, to sausage rolls, cake and other pastries including making pizza.
I have gone halfway through making this meatpie before I realised "hey, what you gonna tell your readers on Hive"
So here we are.
Ingredients pastry
- flour
- butter
- egg (for egg washing)
- salt
Ingredients for filling
- meat
- potato
- carrot
- turmeric
- salt
- seasoning
- thyme
- onion
This is not a tutorial post
The meat, onion, potatoes and carrot get diced and cooked with little oil and seasoning.
The butter and flour gets mixed to make the dough.

Using the meat pie shaper and cutter. The rolled dough is placed on it while the filling is set in.
The same process for the remaining meatpie

Looking good 😉.... Remember to fork the meat pie 😅. This is to let out some steam and cook properly from the inside.
Let's see what it looks like when ready.
