A few years ago @biologist wrote a post about most beautiful birds of the world. This theme inspired me and I want supplement it.
There are so many beautiful birds on the planet, they are large, small, monochrome or multicoloured, they are fantastic. Here is a list of some most amazing birds.
1. Loriinae or Lories
They are small, brightly colored parrots. They live in Australia, New Guinea, eastern Indonesia and Philippines. They feed mainly by pollen and nectar, as well as soft, juicy fruits. Their tongue ends with a brush of horny papillae. With their help, birds suck out the juice from the fruits and the nectar from flowers.
2. Northern cardinal
This bird decorates the emblems of seven US states (Virginia, West Virginia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and North Carolina). Red Cardinal is a medium sized bird. They feed mainly by seeds and fruits of plants, as well as beetles, snails and elm leaves. Nestlings are fed by insects.
3. Grey Crowned Crane
Crowned Crane is a bird of the family of cranes, living in the east and south of Africa. The bird is one of the national symbols of Uganda and is depicted on its national flag and coat of arms. The crane is quite large, the height of the bird is about 106cm (41.7inch) and the weight is 3.5kg (7.6pound). The bird included in the Red List of Threatened Species, as its number decreases.
4. Atlantic puffin
Atlantic puffins, also known as the common puffins, are seabirds. They spend most of their time in the sea, rocking on waves. At sea, puffin swims on the surface and feeds mainly on small fish, which it catches by diving under water, using its wings for propulsion. Atlantic puffins live on the coasts of Atlantic and Arctic oceans.
5. American kestrel
These birds are the smallest and most common falcons in North America. They are not only beautiful birds, but also dangerous predators. They feed by large insects, small birds, lizards and snakes.
6. Peacock
I think this bird should take first place in the ranking of the most beautiful birds. This bird is fantastic. Looking at it can't stop wondering how beautiful our world is. Peacock is a very large bird. And its unique feature is the tail, which it can dissolve like a fan. Peacocks live in Sri Lanka, in India, Pakistan and Nepal.
7. Crowned Pigeons
These birds can often be found in New Guinea. They eat fallen fruits, seeds, and snails. The life span of crowned pigeons can exceed 20 years.
