COVID19; Ghana's Situation - 5 Positive Tested Foreigners on the Run

Today marks day 6 after the President announced the lift of the lock down that was imposed on the 1st and 2nd capital cities in the Nation, thus Greater Accra Region and the Greater Kumasi Regions. As at the time of writing this article, the total confirm cases rest at 1279 with 134 recoveries and 10 deaths. The back log samples are still been cleared and more cases are still expected to come out of it. People are back on the street and in their work places however the government has issued that social distancing protocols should be strongly adhered to. Also, every single individual is expected to put on a nose mask when going out especially in public places failure to do so may attract a fine or a penalty.

Out of the 16 regions 4 has no reported cases. The number of cases per region are Greater Accra (1,089), Ashanti(69), Eastern(56), Northern(13), Volta(10), Central(9), Upper West regions(8), Upper East(8), , North East(2), Western Region and Western North Region(1). Gender distribution stands at 59% male and 41% females. Patient with travel history included Burkina Faso, France, Chine, Great Britain, Germany, Hungary, London, Norway, South African, Spain, Turkey and the United States. This represent 18% of the total confirm cases with 82% due to community spread.

5 Nigerians who were taken into quarantine after their samples were taken for COVID19 testing have run away and been sought by authorities. Their samples came out negative which makes their escape more menacing to the general public. Recovered Patients are also been faced stigmatization as they try to rejoin the society after weeks of self isolation or mandatory quarantine. The Government is working hard conscientize people on the need to desist from such act as it may make the fight against the virus much more difficult should patients refuse to seek treatment as a result. Some are predicting public gathering may be allowed in the near future whereas many are condemning the decision to lift the lock down, what is going to happen next is a mystery to you and i, we can only hope for the best. Continue to Stay at home, wash your hands frequently with soap, use alcohol based hand sanitizers as often as you can and report and symptoms of dry cough, fever and difficulty breathing to the nearest healthcare facility, Stay 2 meters or more away from others and stay healthy, a stronger immmune system is needed to fight this disease.
