In Vino Veritas

Hello SketchBook community, I'm new in Hive, and I want to share with you an illustration I made recently. I started drawing in digital about 9 months ago, I do it from my phone, so I hope you like it. This illustration is inspired by the latin proverb "in vino veritas (in wine is the truth)".

I know that sometimes for us artists it is quite difficult to explain our work process, in fact I have never explained mine, so I hope to do it in a good way. I will take this as a learning experience and maybe in the future I will show you my process in more detail.

Hola comunidad de SketchBook, soy nueva en Hive, y quiero compartir con ustedes una ilustración que hice recientemente. Empecé a dibujar en digital hace unos 9 meses, lo hago desde mi teléfono, así que espero que les guste. Esta ilustración está inspirada en el proverbio latino "in vino veritas (en el vino está la verdad)".

Sé que a veces para nosotros los artistas es bastante difícil explicar nuestro proceso de trabajo, de hecho yo nunca he explicado el mío, así que espero hacerlo de buena manera. Me tomaré esto como una experiencia de aprendizaje y quizás en el futuro les muestre mi proceso con más detalle.

Ok, well... To start I made a sketch of the two main elements, which is a skull and a wine glass. I'm not one to work with organization, so first I focused on starting to give details to what would be the skull.
I started to improve the sketch focusing only on this, adding color, shadows and lighting. It seemed too simple, so I wanted to add something else, then I thought of adding a long tongue like the one in "Venom" xD, and an eye. It can be confusing, and I don't ask you to understand, art is almost always misunderstood. LOL

Ok, bueno... Para empezar hice un boceto de los dos elementos principales, que es una calavera y una copa de vino. No soy de trabajar con organización, así que primero me centré en empezar a dar detalles a lo que sería la calavera.
Empecé a mejorar el boceto centrándome sólo en esto, añadiendo color, sombras e iluminación. Me pareció demasiado simple, así que quise añadir algo más, entonces se me ocurrió añadir una lengua larga como la de "Venom" xD, y un ojo. Puede ser confuso, y no pido que lo entiendan, el arte es casi siempre incomprendido. Lol.

Already having the sketch of these two additions, I started to give details to this area of the drawing, I had not done a digital illustration with textures, but I wanted to try it.

On the tongue I wanted to see that texture as if it had taste buds, in the app I use there is a great variety of brushes, so I chose in the textures part "charcoal". And to make this effect, I used three different shades of red, black for the shadows, and white for the lighting, to apply this last one I lowered the opacity of the brush to 50 because I wanted a subtle detail of illumination.

On the eye I focused mainly on the iris, using earth tones: brown, orange, olive green, tan yellow, black and white. In the rest, I added some small blood vessels and tried to give it a viscous texture. For this I used the airbrush type brushes.

Ya teniendo el boceto de estos dos añadidos, empecé a dar detalles a esta zona del dibujo, no había hecho una ilustración en digital con texturas, pero quería probarlo.

En la lengua quería ver esa textura como si tuviera papilas gustativas, en la app que uso hay una gran variedad de pinceles, así que elegí en la parte de texturas "el carbón". Y para hacer este efecto, utilicé tres tonos diferentes de rojo, negro para las sombras, y blanco para la iluminación, para aplicar este último bajé la opacidad del pincel a 50 porque quería un detalle sutil de iluminación.

En el ojo me centré principalmente en el iris, utilizando tonos tierra: marrón, naranja, verde oliva, amarillo tostado, negro y blanco. En el resto, añadí algunos pequeños vasos sanguíneos e intenté darle una textura viscosa. Para ello utilicé los pinceles tipo aerógrafo

Having finished this element of the illustration for the moment, I moved on to what would be the wine glass. My main idea was for the skull to be inside it, but, it seemed too simple, so I thought of the skull crashing into it. Honestly, making the glass I think was the hardest part of the illustration.
To focus it better, I decided to change the background to a dark gray, and add a small light gray background to which I lowered the opacity to 20 to better visualize what would be the glass and began to play with the shades of wine and red, creating the liquid and the splash of this, to give more depth and brightness I used the famous black and white, it's amazing the effects that can be caused with these two. Most of the time I used the airbrush, and other areas the watercolor brush.

Una vez terminado este elemento de la ilustración por el momento, pasé a lo que sería la copa de vino. Mi idea principal era que la calavera estuviera dentro de ella, pero, me pareció demasiado simple, así que pensé en la calavera chocando contra ella. Sinceramente, hacer la copa creo que fue la parte más difícil de la ilustración.
Para enfocarlo mejor, decidí cambiar el fondo a un gris oscuro, y añadir un pequeño fondo gris claro al que le bajé la opacidad a 20 para visualizar mejor lo que sería la copa y empecé a jugar con las tonalidades del vino y el rojo, creando así el líquido y la salpicadura de este, para darle más profundidad y brillo utilicé el famoso blanco y negro, es increíble los efectos que se pueden provocar con estos dos. La mayor parte del tiempo utilicé el aerógrafo, y otras zonas el pincel de acuarela.

What would be the base of the cup I did using only black and white, and some red highlights. To give it the final touches, I put some red splashes on the skull and some crystals scattered all over the place, plus a base simulating a table where I then applied different shadows to give it a more realistic effect.

Lo que sería la base de la copa lo hice usando sólo blanco y negro, y algunos reflejos rojos. Para darle los toques finales, puse algunas salpicaduras rojas en la calavera y algunos cristales esparcidos por todo el lugar, además de una base simulando una mesa donde luego apliqué diferentes sombras para darle un efecto más realista.
