Hehe, you are probably right. I once saw a photo of an orangutan trying to rescue a man who entered a pit. I stretched forth one of its hands to hold the man.

There are also studies in linguistics where they try to teach language to primates. Orangutans were only primates (besides humans) that could actually communicate beyond just mimicking.

It was sign language, and yes, communication with same and across species.
