Process of Drawing: Eco Cafe, St Jacobs

in Sketchbook2 years ago

Here is a step by step process of a drawing I made of the Eco Cafe in the lovely town of St Jacobs.

When I first started the drawing there was a customer waiting with his dog and for some reason I kept drawing the cafe and ignored the dog. It finally clicked to include the little scamp but I only managed to scribble him in at the last minute. That's the kind of field instinct that requires me to have already finished my coffee.

This activated the need to fuel up so I could be more alert. The evidence of said alertness scattered in crumbs across the page.

Added in a new customer who was not the dog's owner. In fact, at that point, the dog had left with his owner...

And here I added in Jess, one of the managers of the cafe.

After I finished the drawing I showed it to Jess who was quite happy to see it and took a picture for the cafe's instagram. We discussed displaying a print of the drawing at the cafe.

This would be a part of a project I'm trying to get off the ground called "One Location, One Print", where I make prints of drawings of various locations, and display/sell the prints at those locations. It's slow going for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the amount of legwork required. But I like to get out and meet people.

So what do you think? Would you buy a print of this drawing if you were to visit the Eco Cafe in St Jacob's Ontario?
