RE: Trying out Holbein gouache paint

in Sketchbook22 days ago

yeah.... ok ish... i really miss the working time... but i also love the quick drying ness of acrylic so i can stack my little daily paintings as well.. the colour richness of oils is better. However i dooooo still like working with acrylic. I think there is still some snobbery around working with oils though... people believe that is the best and anyone working in acrylic is "substandard" i get that... but still.
I needed to change my painting order a little and i find things that need a long blend time (say fabric folds) difficult.

again... i actually think the purple works well in the sand. :-)

What is your favourite medium?

Totally agree with all that you said. There definitely is some snobbery still although I see a lot of established artists now are using acrylics. David Hockney, Kerry James Marshall, Claire Tabouret, and the likes... so that gives me quite a confidence in the medium.

Though I do my best to properly make my works with the right medium and store them properly so they are preserved and can last longer.

Are you using acrylic mediums as well? My favorite is a slow-dri medium hahah although it doesn't last as long as oil but gives enough time to blend.

My favorite medium has always been oil, it's just recent that I changed into acrylics to see how if I can substitute it with oils but I can see why not use both at some point.
