Splinterlands art contest #273 (Fallen Specter)

in Sketchbooklast year (edited)

Every week Splinterlands community holds a art contest on Hive and for it you basically have to draw one of their card from Splinterlandscards.com . You can win their card packs or Hive through this contest's Participation by drawing a card in your art style without any plagiarism.

I have been taking part every week in this contest and it has made me grow and learn alot about character designs and how each card has its own unique personality .

Well for this week's entry I drew (Fallen Specter ) .Let's discuss the character further so as I saw the card there wasn't much color in it just 4 basic colors white, teal , red and a light blue . The character is like a Ghost with claws but just formed like a Fire . So it has wobbly yet edgy lines and alot of pointy sharp line work so the character looks pretty fierce . The main body has blue to denote the shadow and teal glow all around it while it's eyes and mouth are crimson red .

Now as I sketch it out I had in my mind that the lineart is the main thing for this character since there isn't much dressing or colors so I just made a sharp edgy flame like body making sure the arms and the claws are looking fierce as well .

Now I convert it in a lineart by importing my sketch in Medibang paint pro app . Usually I trace over my sketch but for this I made it more sharp and pointy like fire while keeping the same form . Then I made his facial features like the eyes and mouths lineart too and that's the main and most required part of this character.

After this today the coloring wasn't much I just filled him with flat colors like white and blue . But on two different layers added a grey background so we can see how the. White looks .

Now I deleted the whole characters silhouette by tapping outside the character . I then filled layer with teal and gaussian blurred it set this layer to hard light and that adds a whispy glow to the character .

I now colored the lineart too and then I colored the background into a dark blue and teal gradient next I added a layer clipped it on top of the blue flame layer and just airbrushed the bottom with a darker blue shade then same way I used a gradient on the lineart .

Made his facial features red . So it pretty much looks great . But let's make it pop more by adding a saturated blue layer on top lower it's opacity . Now I add my Water mark and here is the final result .

I personally found it so dope I learnt a new technique too and I personally loved the whole idea of a ghost made with flames .

That's all for today Thank you for your precious time and support ❤️
