The number one thing I like most about @oswaldarts
work is his ability to capture the natural image of his subjects. He makes sure that he takes you on a tour to interact with the spirit of his model and this process allows you to become familiar with the model's personality.
Next is his ability to paint in a very relatable way. He makes sure that in his portraits you interact not only with the soul of the subject but also with the African cultural feel. The heavy, carefully placed impastos can signify cultural strength, the authority and power of the model.
I have also observed how our pioneer Nigerian artists have always been so expressive with colour, their knowledge of colour theory is mind blowing, their attention to detail and realism approach is top notch. They are so good at capturing our true African identities with just colours. It is just like how the Westerners capture their own world in their painting.
