My First Commission Portrait for This Year

in Sketchbook3 years ago

Hello Hivers! It's been a while since I haven't posted here.

I'd like to share with you my first artwork for this year. I made this last January since I was busy I wasn't able to post this immediately.

By the way, this portrait is a commission. Just like before, I have this process that I am doing based on the techniques that I am comfortable with.

  • Sketch

Everyone starts by sketching to form the figure. This is necessary because it helps to shape and follow the proportions of the features of the subject accurately and precisely. You can use any pencil that can easily be erased because, in sketching, there's always a trial and error. In this step, you just have to sketch lightly.

  • Shadowing/Shading

Shadowing is the most challenging and crucial part when I begin in portraiture. You have to make the portrait looks vivacious. There are different styles of shading, since this is what I am comfortable with I am doing the semi-rough style of shading. I used a charcoal pencil to have the volume of shades that is needed, from the darkest to the lightest. The charcoal pencil should be used carefully so as not to destroy or mess up the portrait because of its denseness. I also used different sizes of dry brushes and tortillon to smudge some areas.

  • Details

To put some details, I used a small hard brush and tortillon for the dark part, and for the light part would be the hard eraser or kneaded eraser also known as a gummy eraser. I used the eraser for highlighting especially in the hair area to show some strands and associate it with the pure stroke of the charcoal pencil then brush it to make it look even. It is also necessary to put the facial features of the subject.

And here it is!

Put your signature

This is also important to avoid plagiarism. This is not to brag but there are also instances that your artwork will be used without any credits. You work hard for it no matter what your artwork is!

That's all, thank you!😉

That's so cool. I tried doing that before and ended up being an alien of some kind. Maybe I should just post it on Alien Hive community lol.

Thank you. 😁 I'm doing the same thing when it was my first time to draw 😅 but still it can be considered as an art. Hihi

Congrats on the commissioned work. It's good to have commissions because you get to earn from something that you love doing. Good luck on your next one. Yung last part ang pinka-important dyan, the signature. 😁
