Eucalyptus Globulus | Sketchbook 2025 | Day 1

in Sketchbook16 days ago

A few weeks ago, my neighbor gave me several eucalyptus branches from her garden. I've always liked eucalyptus for its pleasant aroma, but also for decoration. I let some of the branches dry, and today I decided to practice a bit with ink, and here's the result:

I usually draw using reference photos, but I want to cultivate the good habit of drawing from observation. I think I'll gradually achieve the results I want.

First, I make a pencil drawing, trying to capture the shapes. I enjoyed this part because I could realized when the curves did not correspond to the shape. This is the most observational part.

Then, I outlined the shape. If you can understand the shape, then it's a good composition.

Finally, I added details with the 0.5 marker, and I drew some loose leaves.

For this ink drawing I used 0.05, 0.5 and 1mm markers.
