Wait, I thought no one commented on my content because they were left speechless by my detailed analysis of the mathematical formula of the reward curve. You’re telling me they never cared??!?
I'd say right now "lack of engagement" applies to ALL types of content here. If people weren't scared to post such content out of fear of being flagged, there might actually be content here people WANT to comment on, etc.
Exactly. People aren’t posting short content for the fear of being flagged. But often short content is a lot more interesting than some of the long boring rubbish we see around here that gets heaps of votes but minimal engagement.
the engagement is a byproduct of lack of users, something I really hope we figure out a solution to as I firmly believe it will fix a lot of issues we run into.
Yup. Steem's biggest folly was marketing to mainly amateur creators using things like 'Social Media' as a tagline of sorts. It helped to bring people to the platform but it failed to bring consumers; the content wasn't sold as a product.
With enough variety here and a solid push to bring in dedicated consumers, the content creation/consumption aspect of this blockchain could really go places. Consumer incentives would be something to focus on. Even changing the name 'curation rewards' to 'consumer rewards' makes marketing easier; clear to the mainstream mind.
Protip: create an alt for literal shitposts if you don't want drama or risk to miss out on autovotes. Peakd works well with switching between accounts!
Do it Bernie! An anything-goes community of general fun, grumpiness and lots of engagement would be a huge hit :-) Social media how it should be done as opposed to up your own arse conceited twats posting boring drivel and thinking they are 'changing the world' and gods-gift to content creation.
Because nothing is voted on due to actual engagement, rather auto votes. So a meme no one cares about is not worth much.. and therefore autovotes ruin it.
Now if it was a meme that started some amazing engagement.. cool.. but we don’t do anything based on that.. we just autovote bs.
Why not vote on posts also based on how much engagement they're generating? That's a simple solution. I've said it at least once before and I don't think I'm the only one that has occurred to.
Overthinking and anxiety. I want my profile to look cool but end up fucking it up all the time, having second thoughts about and stopping to like post I was once proud of. I can't for some reason just go full "fuck it" mode, even though I once almost did.
Post whatever you feel nd fuck whatever anyone else thinks. Especially on HIve now, there is too much anxiety over what's posted and too much judgement by the 'quality content providers' and guilds and curators, most of whom couldn't hold a light to you anyway! Just do it punkmama

Does those bring quality ?? A single photograph or meme or funny video....it is like spoiling the pond. May be that is the short cut, but is not fruitful....that is my take only...
A post that takes 30 minutes and no research to write, or a single picture that took hours of prepping and 100's of photos to catch the perfect shot, that is then perfected after hours of editing?
Well you're actually right about it but sometimes I believe content creation can have different phases too. As for me I'm trying harder to write contents that people can relate and be thrilled by even of they're not so short. But anyway shorter contents are by far cool.
Well, are people thrilled about each post ? There will be times to do long posts, which is spontaneous, e.g. you write on some of your travel story. But majority of the people would engage more with shorter content.
Well I published a short natural mindpleasing travel vlog on this Blockchain which gives you a internal relaxation to you guys..
The quality content matters on this platform guys whether it is anything meme shortvideos posts etc.
🤷🏻♀️ I was actually thinking on doing so from another account one just for that so to avoid the drama as Marky says especially if you have autovotes, being hearing for over 2 years now how that is not quality content and is some kind of reward sucking method that i am afraid to do it from my main account can get me a bad rep or downvotes or something idk
Because of the flags that people self-entitled as the holders of the ultimate quality criteria will smash on small redfishes and minnows how dare to spam the blockchain with such a low quality content lol.
The other reason, core devs getting hundreds from the rewards pool for tech posts and some others getting thousands from the development fund... The off chain whispers is that only tech stuff, GitHub repositories and other simar stuff is rewarded...
I mean Trump gives away tons of posible viral content every second he speaks. So could get hundreds of thousands engaging around politics, the virus issue, some sexy girl/guy around the media, the spoilers of the trending series, the possibilities are endless! But still, many (with lots of HP) are still trapped in the old mentality
I'm digging the idea of the askhive community, its a pretty good short-form community and there's a healthy bit of engagement going on, and with the current price, I can easily drop 0.10 to 0.20 on my commenters depending on quality to reward engagement :^)
Maybe someone should start a community that is designed for quick meme/link/funny type posts. Somewhere where anything goes, and no one is judged or called a shit poster. Could be an interesting experiment.
I would enjoy some memes, but I think memes are only really enjoyable if you have a simple and fast frontend. Like, I want to open an app (or website) and just scroll and see the memes (like on Reddit), I don't want to have the whole "additional stuff" that you have on peakd or hive.blog.
Also, like Marky already said, I think it would lead to more drama. I liked dMania, but we all know what happened ¯\(ツ)/¯
The problem is people have a mindset that when you write long content you will get rewarded and to some extent it's happening with most of the guys here.
Well, not everyone wants to engage with that kind of content either - nor would everyone have success doing it. People should engage and post about what they like, and not forced to do what others want? I would think that was the whole point of creating your own blog, and freedom of choice? That's the way I see it anyway...do what you want and then others can decide what they like or don't like. 😇
Well, I'm glad we're not focusing on engagement above all else like Facebook's algorithm does.
But you're right that bloggers overestimate the value of effortposting. No one wants to read a NaNoWriMo novel. I usually stick to commenting and upvoting comments. Start following @memedump if you want to be spammed with memes in the future.
because I like to share stories of my journey on this hive. with these stories make them more enthusiastic to adventure. maybe that's just a comment from me. @xxxxxxxxxx
I know for me personally, I make more HIVE on longer content. In fact, I think "most" people follow the formats of the trending page. And, majority of those posts are in long form. I actually prefer a shorter post. It's better for time purposes. I think that the only way you could get away with posting something "short", Is if it's really, really, original...You're a nice looking female...Or, you have whales following you/or are yourself a whale with a lot of Influence. That's just what I've personally experienced. And I've been here close to four years, as I'm sure that you have as well. (Steem/HIVE)
I usualy don't write long posts. Most of my posts share only value without water. I recently created an English club in hive and people are interested. We will post mostly short there.
Mostly because I have a lot of people who autovote me so I don't want to have a meme pinned up to trending at 60$ or put a limit to like 1$ and make those people waste their voting power. I would need to make a second account like howo.shorts or something but I cba to do it for now.
Short powerful stuff should definitely has its place on Hive too but I think our trending should mostly include quality elaborate pieces like for example this one. Too bad this particular one never made it there...
This community is a perfect example of how short content can bring more engagement. This Ask the Hive community probably has more engagement than any other community on Hive.
I try to post a mix of different types of content. The shorter stuff seems to get as much engagement as long as people find it useful or entertaining in some way. I plan to be posting more videos in the near future so we'll see how that goes. Honestly engagement seems to be better on Hive than it was the last few years on Steemit, for me anyway.
I have gone further by creating a community where you can create content for photographers, with the idea of Instagram, and inviting Instagram photographers to Hive, if they have invested in their equipment, why wouldn't they invest in stake?
A few days ago I invited a person and when he saw the posts, he told me: I'm a photographer, not a writer, that's why it was the idea of the community, not to encourage spam or plagiarism, but good photographs in which the Instagram profiles are added to the posts, the image and the camera settings, nothing else, if they want to do long posts it will be up to each person.
Wait, I thought no one commented on my content because they were left speechless by my detailed analysis of the mathematical formula of the reward curve. You’re telling me they never cared??!?
Ding! Ding! Ding!
because of the drama that comes with it and lack of engagement
The post with the most engagement I've gotten was an insanely short post. The AMA.
I'd say right now "lack of engagement" applies to ALL types of content here. If people weren't scared to post such content out of fear of being flagged, there might actually be content here people WANT to comment on, etc.
+1
So odd. I tried to post something quick and fun today. Got downvoted. I just don't get it. ;)
Well, @transisto is a fucking idiot. There's no questioning that guy and his retarded voting.

Exactly. People aren’t posting short content for the fear of being flagged. But often short content is a lot more interesting than some of the long boring rubbish we see around here that gets heaps of votes but minimal engagement.
more concerned about the talking behind my back
the engagement is a byproduct of lack of users, something I really hope we figure out a solution to as I firmly believe it will fix a lot of issues we run into.
There's been a shortage of consumers for years. I been saying it for years. ;)
There is a short of both, just everyone is a producer due to the rewards.
Yup. Steem's biggest folly was marketing to mainly amateur creators using things like 'Social Media' as a tagline of sorts. It helped to bring people to the platform but it failed to bring consumers; the content wasn't sold as a product.

Consumer incentives would be something to focus on. Even changing the name 'curation rewards' to 'consumer rewards' makes marketing easier; clear to the mainstream mind.
What if...all the producers also became consumers of at least 3 users?

Too big a deal is made out of the rewards. Should they be a little less visible on the front ends?

Protip: create an alt for literal shitposts if you don't want drama or risk to miss out on autovotes. Peakd works well with switching between accounts!
Why would i NOT want drama? Drama is the spice of life. lol
Now here comes some perceived, subjective meaning of "shitposts"!
What's valuable for one can be shit for others. But some keep insisting to enforce "their" view point.
Honestly, that's why I've been posting more in askhive the past few days.
Maybe a dumb question, but have you thought about starting a community for such content?
I would love to see a Twitter-style community dapp on the platform.
I will definitely put some thought into that.
Do it Bernie! An anything-goes community of general fun, grumpiness and lots of engagement would be a huge hit :-) Social media how it should be done as opposed to up your own arse conceited twats posting boring drivel and thinking they are 'changing the world' and gods-gift to content creation.
Wait, it can either be a community or a dapp right?
It doesn't really need to be either. It just needs to be a shift in mindset of the users here.
Agreed, but something will need to drive that shift.
It's been crazy to me that it's always been advertised as a competitor to Reddit, but the content has always been more of a blog feel.
It's going to take someone with a large stake and a community to develop a "platform" that said content is not seen in a negative light.
Culture is hard to shift and even longer to change.
Change is coming.
Looking forward to it
No I mean, community and dapp are separate things right?
So..
That can't happen.
Ah, I just suggested the same thing. Maybe the community is a good idea.
there is "no one" on Hive anyways, so what's the point
I thought there is something like downvote mafia here.
But even if it's not, seldom can one find such a post in trending. So what's the point in posting that!
Maybe it's "trending" that needs to change. 🤔

Same! But you can just post in a community and don't reblog it so it won't show on your blog :D
Oh shit, that's a nice way to get my community posts in my blog. I was wondering how to do that.

What's higher quality.
A post that takes 30 minutes and no research to write, or a single picture that took hours of prepping and 100's of photos to catch the perfect shot, that is then perfected after hours of editing?
What is quality? A novel? 6 photos? 11 photos?
Give it a bit of thought. I'd rather see ANYTHING that gets people commenting, sharing, etc.
True spirit - don't know why people are inclined to long quality.......
Well you're actually right about it but sometimes I believe content creation can have different phases too. As for me I'm trying harder to write contents that people can relate and be thrilled by even of they're not so short. But anyway shorter contents are by far cool.

It could be interesting, I use fb for that kind of thing, I invest time writing in hive as to waste my moment with a simple meme.
It's acceptable but if everyone refuses to pay.
Short content is not considered as quality content here.
I definitely post short content.
Short, paid out, content.

Sometimes I do... not too much text, cause I know that people don't like to read super long posts.
Here is an example... short and provocative post:
MY HIGH QUALITY CONTENT POST

Hugs
Steemitri The Mannequin
Because most of the quality preaching curators won't have the time to look on to it. And would have deemed them unworthy of any rewards/engagements.
I had put a post on same on the #askhive community, and I also feel short content will create more engagement. Twitter is the best example.
I'm digging the idea of the askhive community, its a pretty good short-form community and there's a healthy bit of engagement going on, and with the current price, I can easily drop 0.10 to 0.20 on my commenters depending on quality to reward engagement :^)
I tried in the passt on Steemit no way will support this 😂

That's all I do. And my rewards are miserable:(
because azircon will come and flag everything to zero using curangel like he does to me since weeks
First, thanks for the support today.
Second, a community called "Shitposters" that is only for said content lol.

I sometimes do. I'm not sure if the stuff that I post is what people actually care about, though. :)
Good points.
I think that’s what I do, check my recent posts, see if you agree
Nothing wrong with some twitter style posting
I try to sometimes but in some ways I'm wary of shit posting and being on worse permanent blacklists on hive.
I don't mind if I'm downvoted a lot on some stuff I post, but everything would be annoying.
I posted something short today but probably won't get much engagement until I get a larger following and we can held onboard more hive users
