Esta edición numero 2 esta dedicada al juego de las METRAS, canicas o pichas como se le conocen en Venezuela. Quizá en algún momento hayas escuchado la expresión: "se le pusieron los ojos como unas metras", refieriendose a lo desorbitante de sus ojos. Pues ya veras el por que de la comparación.

Las metras.

Las metras son pelotitas muy redonditas elaboradas generalmente de cristal o vidrio, su aspecto físico es transparente y en ocasiones presentan pequeñas figuras abstractas de variados colores en su interior. Las metras o canicas son un excelente juguete para los ninos mayores de seis anos, puesto que la conciencia de un nino a partir de esta edad le permite estar alerta y prevenir el peligro que podria ocasionar si intenta metersela en la boca o lanzarla a otros ninos de su entorno. Las metras son una especie de bolas de vidrio, son realmente duras, cuesta bastante que una metra se rompa. Pero he alli algo super impresionante; si eres jugador de metra empedernido, tu mejor metra es la que tiene mas cicatrices y aun asi permanece con su forma redonda original. Cada jugador se aferra a una de sus metras considerando la "de la buena suerte".

Yo tenia mi metra especial. Aunque parezca que no podemos diferenciarlas, seria algo asi como la distincion que haria una madre al tener que identificar a su gemelos identicos. Las metras se parecen mucho, pero si las detallas, quiza encontraras en cada una una linea o un color que la define o caracteriza. Y es que debe ser asi, porque si no imaginense como en un torneo de metras cada jugador identificaria la suya entre tantas.

Como se juega?

Como en todo juego antes de iniciar se proponen las reglas, si todos están de acuerdo se inicia el partido. Haciendo un ejercicio de memoria, recuerdo que se traza una linea en la tierra (el mejor suelo para jugar) y se traza un triangulo en el se colocaran todas las metras que se van a jugar cada uno. Todos los jugadores lanzan su metra, canica o picha desde una distancia mas o menos de un metro y medio, intentando sacar del triángulo la mayor cantidad de metras posibles.

Previamente se eligira el lugar donde se realizara un hoyo, esta parte es super divertida; los jugadores se toman su tiempo para hacer con una monedita, generalmente, los hoyos que servirán de comodín o salvación. En alguna ocasión impedirá que el jugador no pierda su turno o su metra.

How to play?

As in any game, the rules are proposed before starting, if everyone agrees, the game begins. Para lanzar la metra hay un método válido universalmente, se coloca la metra en la mano apoyada del suelo, se coloca entre los dedos índice y pulgar y se empuja para que ruede hasta golpear una de las metras que esta en el área, si la golpea se la gana. Pero si el jugador no ve oportunidad en su turno de pegarle a una metra, entonces busca el hoyo que esté más cerca y para allá lanza la suya, así se salvara de estar más cerca de otra al lanzar. Sin embargo, la modalidad del lanzamiento puede variar y esta se incorpora en las reglas previas al torneo. En lo particular, yo lanzo la metra empujándola con el pulgar y tomándola con una sola mano. Si puedes notar en la imagen anterior, los jugadores usan las dos manos para lanzar su metra. Yo solo uso una!

Para cada torneo los jugadores llevaban su mochilas o latas; para la época en la que yo jugaba, las metras se guardaban en las latas de leche, bastante ruidoso al momento de seleccionar cuales nos íbamos a llevar al torneo y como niños al fin las estremecíamos cual maracas y ahí venía rapidito el regaño de los padres.

Las metras se suelen vender en paqueticos de mallas, las podemos conseguir en las jugueterías, comercios asiáticos y las bodegas. Lamentablemente este juego se ha visto contrariado ya que por un tiempo en nuestro país tuvieron que suspender la venta debido al mal uso que se les estaba dando. En ese momento se utilizaban como balas, proyectiles o en sustitución de las municiones para lastimar a personas que se manifestaban a favor o en contra de una ideología política.

Antes de finalizar recomiendo ser muy precavido en el uso de las metras, constante supervisión a los niños en horas de juego y establecer un lugar especial para el almacenamiento de ellas, con la finalidad de que su exposición no ocasione ningún tipo de accidente.

IMPORTANTE: Explicar al niño el riesgo de los juegos donde se apuesta o pone a la disposición de los demás jugadores algo que les pertenece. Enseñarles ambos conceptos: ganar y perder. Aceptar que se van al torneo con las mochilas llenas y podrían regresar con ellas vacías. A pesar de que los niños aprenden a socializar, jugar y compartir muchos se sienten malhumorados, tristes y deprimidos cuando pierden en alguno de los juegos donde algo hay que colocar de garantía.

Metras, canicas o pichas como le decimos en esta región (oriental) del país. Gracias a mis hijos que aun conservan sus juguetes más preciados por facilitarme la mochila. Esta ha sido mi presentación de uno de los juegos tradicionales de mi país que más jugué cuando niña y que en celebraciones de la semana santa se acostumbra a realizar entre los niños de la localidad.
