WWE Raw's 16th September 2024 - Breakups, Breakouts, and Brawls

in Cent2 months ago

WWE Raw was dope last week. I never got the chance to do a blog on the rest of what happened last week, but I thought to do so before tonight's episode. We're getting close to that return of "Bad Blood" pay-per-view, and boy, the red brand is turning up the heat on more than a few fronts.

Let me start by saying this was carnage after carnage between Bronson Reed and Braun Strowman.

These two titans fought to new heights, or shall I say new extremes, by literally smashing into the arena walls. It's refreshing to see WWE embracing this kind of over-the-top spectacle again.

What comes out as sheer entertainment in a world where wrestling has often tried to mimic MMA or "a legitimate sport" is from two monster-of-man humans going at each other in what can only be described as a live-action kaiju battle.

But while Reed and Strowman were enjoying destroying the arena, a more subtle, yet perhaps more greatly important, story unfolded elsewhere.

The games Sami Zayn played within Ludwig Kaiser's mind, by extension GUNTHER's, is a bit of a master class in storytelling. It's one of those ways of saying Kaiser needs a name outside of GUNTHER's, the kind of seed that may grow into the full bloom of dissension within the Imperium.

Smart way to layer up what could be straightforward title chases, although it seems Kaiser still showed his loyalty to Gunther.

Speaking of title chases, this women's division just keeps telling a great story.

IYO SKY beating Bianca Belair was more than just a win, it was a statement. Damage CTRL has been right on the cusp for quite a while now, and this could be what they need to shift momentum.

But let's not take anything away from Bianca, though, the woman can display some incredible feats of strength.

Walking up steel steps while having an opponent in a vertical suplex position, in and of itself, is just the kind of stuff that cements a wrestler's status as a once-in-a-generation talent.

Speaking of which, to the best promo of the evening: CM Punk.

Man, his promo last week reminded everyone why he is considered one of the best on the mic.

That smile, the tone of his voice, the serious intensity in those eyes, all that makes this a Hell in a Cell match with Drew McIntyre for the ages. WWE won't have an excuse here but to make something extremely special: a match that defines this era of the company.

But perhaps, arguably the most fascinating development of the night occurred as tensions rose among members of The New Day.

This faction in WWE has existed for an incredibly long time, and to even think about any break in the unit is exciting and scary at the same time.

The chemistry in that is palpable, but we have seen time and time again the force that individual runs can take on any time longstanding teams break up.

Could this be what finally brings Big E back in, even as a mediator or rival? 🤔

Building toward tonight's Raw and beyond, there's little question WWE is setting the table for some monumental changes in their landscape. The question remains, however, is if they will pull the trigger:

pays off the promise of these storylines or retreats into safer and more familiar territory.
