We gave up our grill after moving to the coast. We couldn't keep the mold off it. So, we baked bratwurst in the oven. They turn out almost as good, including the browning. Since I come from Milwaukee, bratwurst is a staple for grilling. I'm glad my husband likes them (he's from Ohio and never ate bratwurst until I introduced him to it), because we now have them every time you would typically grill.
I liked brats as a kid. But I never cared for adding sauerkraut. Back in 2006 when I went to work in Wisconsin for a bit, I tried the bratwurst, sauerkraut, and beer trifecta. Heaven.
I've never been one for sauerkraut. My husband, on the other hand, loves it and was used to eating it with ribs.
I don't eat it with anything other than brats.
