Hello everyone,
With the increased drop in the player base in gods unchained, we can all undeniably say that the game is getting much tougher for everyone, and that is because most of the people you will face now will have good decks, good cards and are familiar with the game since most of us playing it now are good at it and have been playing it for a while!
So this tells us that it is becoming more difficult to get to mythic, let alone hold your position in it for a while. I even struggled a lot for a couple of weeks and been stuck in solar gold for a while. However, despite all the meta shifts, new decks and combos emerging, there has been 1 deck that has been holding me for a while in mythic, and also making me able to go back again in case I dropped and that is card draw magic.
Now since I have been playing the game for a while, I was able to hone this deck even further and make it stronger with more expensive cards, however it has been doing very well to me also even before getting those new cards, so in this post I'll be sharing my CDM deck along with the old, cheaper version of it for anyone who still does not have the expensive card.
The Deck
Now as you can see, the deck is not cheap and contains many cards that are expensive, however, it is extremely good and even can be played without the expensive cards which I will be mentionning the replacement for you:
Card replacement
Pyramid Warden for Academy apprentice
Although the PW is a great defensive early game asset, which also pose some threat and can get a bit of face damage in early on, the academy apprentice is still a decent substitue for it, it is still a card on board that needs to be dealt with, as well as making you do tons more damage with your spells which can help a lot too!
Blade of Whiteplain for Starshard bolt
What makes Blade of Whiteplain so strong is the ability to clear a strong or annoying creature, while at the same time drawing you cards and get a card on board. Although not as effective, Starshard Bolt can handle clearing annoying creatures a lot of time and it is the closest cheap alternative in this case.
As for Pallas Wand, it is a little bot on the expensive side, but it is definitely a must for this deck and very important to it. It does not mean you can not play CDM without it, but it makes it a lot stronger and make it live up to its name: CARD DRAW
Now let us talk about cards I thought about switching out and in for this deck and the strenght and weak points of each:
Cards to be added/removed
The first card I thought about switching out is the Oni Spellsword. With the meta now being either fast, or having tons of clearing potential, I only find the Oni very useful in 2 situations:
- First situation: Against Control Nature decks. Since they have tons of heals, there is absolutely now way to kill them with just pure spells. Therefore what I try to do against them is, once I reach mid game, I try to build somehwat of a wide board with the Oni, and give the Oni protected with the ancient Texts.
This way, it will be almost impossible for your opponent to kill the Oni which will allow him to snowball and deal tons of damage to finish him off. A combo might look something like this:
This combo costs 6 mana in 1 turn, but will give your opponent a tough time and a 1/3 chance, even more if you already had a creature before to pop the Oni ward with a random spell, since most of nature spells are random. It will also ward your other creatures too making them annoying as well, and you can snowball from there each turn and making the Oni stronger!
- Second situation: Against OTK decks. The only way to win against OTK decks, is usually killing them before they are able to do their combos. They are known to be weak early game, therefore getting the Oni on board as soon as possible allows you to makw him stronger and finishing your opponent faster!
Other than those 2 situations I would probably switch out the Oni for another Pyrrhic Knowledge
Second card to add
Safeguard incantation
The second card I wanted to add for a while is Safeguard Incantation. It provides insane defensive value and has been very annoying for me in many situations and has proven to be useful in mant scenarios so I will probably find a place for it soon.
Another replacement
Another replacement I would do for this deck is switching out the relic removals. Having relic removals has proven to be very important in the current meta, therefore my best option her was the Iron-tooth goblin which is really good!
However, if I had the option to switch it, it would be only for Eiko, the Undaunted Dualist. Other than that the Iron-tooth goblin is the best option here:
Final Thoughts
This deck has been doing me really good over the last couple of months, so I would advice everyone to try it out and see how it goes! It is very important part of this game to find a certain stable deck that you can go to, to climb up in rank and this one has been doing exactly that for me.
You can always try other decks for fun, and this deck is good to climb but also really fun to play if you feel like switching from your previous deck. The cheaper versions work pretty fine as well even in mythic although of course, not as effective as the expensive ones, but still really good!
So that was it for this one, I have anyone would try out this deck and I wish it was helpful in any way. I will always try to post fun and effective decks to help out anyone out there who is confused on what to play exactly and try to get him back on track! Thank you for reading and I will see you on the next one!
Mad Love, Peace out <3
Nice! I always struggle with CDM. It's fun, but there are always so many options/lines to play.
Exactly! And that is why it is kinda fun for me and has been consistent for a while now.
This is the kind of deck that my Wild Aggro Nature deck always struggles to beat, I think in 5 matches that I got to battle this deck I only won one match.
