After posting about 3 famous playstyles of nature, magic and war gods, it is now time to showcase 3 playstyles for deception!

You do not often see deception being used in low or mid ranks, and even in higher ranks it is not frequently used for 3 reasons:

  1. For most of its cards and decks being out of meta recently in comparison to war for example.
  2. The difficulty to acquire good deck since most deception decks need expensive cards.
  3. For being a bit tougher and harder to play than other gods.

However, in this post I will be showing 3 playstyles that you can use, each has its own budget from cheap to expensive and I will try my best to explain how to play it as much as possible!

First Playstyle:

Hidden Rush:

The context of this playstyle is in the name itself.

Hidden rush is all about rushing to finish the game as soon as possible by using your hidden creatures to hot your opponent gods with the enemy unable to kill yours.

For this playstyle you would not want to target your opponent creatures except with your spells and creature added specifically for this purpose.

And since it is all about being hidden and go face, having the Orfeo's Distraction god ability is crucial!

Example Deck:

 " " \" \"Hidden Rush Deception.jpg\"\"""

As you can see, a lot of low mana hidden creatures to be able to finish the game as soon as possible!

Important Cards:

 " " \" \"Important cards for Hidden Rush.png\"\"""

Armor lurker: An excellent card to get rid of 1 opponent creature with the 2 armor and still have a 3/1 and 1 armor creature on board.

Shade walker: The damage that can be dealt with this creature on the opponent god is so valuable! Protect it well and you can end the game soon as intended!

Ludia's Dedicant and Patient Pickpocket: Since this deck has a lot of low mana creatures, you wouldn't want to run out of cards to play soon, therefore those 2 cards are so valuable to help you keep some cards in your hand!

Replacement to make the deck cheaper:

First Replacement:

Orfeo can be replaced with Sleep Dart:

 " " \" \"rep ss 2.jpg\"\"""

Second Replacement:

Shadow of Lethenon can be replaced with Felid Assassin:

 " " \" \"Replacement two hidden rush.png\"\"""

These replacement can make the deck a lot cheaper in case you do not have the cards without ruining the purpose of the deck!

Gameplay of this deck:

Second Playstyle:

Thief:

This playstyle was once and maybe still the most popular deception playstyle!

In this playstyle you play the role of a thief and steal cards from your opponent's deck and use them against him!

This playstyle actually does not have a specific way of thinking while playing. Since it is all about stealing card, what you do first is steal them and then everything depends on what you get!

That is why this playstyle is more effective against nature and mage gods because you mostly get cards that can help you either deal damage or you get good string creatures!

Example Deck:

 " " \" \"Thief.jpg\"\"""

A lot of stealing and thieving potential with some creatures to either deal damage or kill enemy creatures!

Important Cards:

 " " \" \"Important cards thief.png\"\"""

Since your goal is mainly stealing cards, Ludia's Dedicant, Patient Pickpocket and Lightfoot Informant are so important for this purpose.

Uncanny Rogue: The deadly that he provides can get you out of tough situation if you faced a strong creature and was not lucky enough to get good cards from your opponent!

Replacements to make it cheaper:

First replacement:

 " " \" \"rep ss 2.jpg\"\"""

Just like hidden rush, Orfeo can be replaced with Sleep Dart

Second Replacement:

Mimicus can be replaced with Stoneskin Poison:

 " " \" \"rep ss.jpg\"\"""

Gameplay of this playstyle:

Third Playstyle:

Mill:

The third and final playstyle for this post is Mill!

Who would have ever thought that making your opponent draw cards can be a curse to him at some point?

In my opinion, this playstyle is the most interesting and the rarest found to find out of all these playstyles! You won't find players using this playstyle everywhere much less perfecting it!

It is called Mill because it is all about rotating cards between your opponents deck and hand until at some point he can not hold any more cards.

By protecting yourself while making your opponent draw cards as much as possible and returning cards to his hand, at some point he will start discarding cards like crazy!

It is really tough to perfect this playstyle and it is not always effective! It can be used in tournaments since most of tournament decks are either control or board wipe decks and this playstyle ruins them!

Example Deck:

 " " \" \"Mill.jpg\"\"""

Surprise, surprise! A lot of cards that makes the opponent draw!

Also a lot of cards with sleep effect because it is so crucial to first of all protect yourself from enemy attacks and second of all keeping a lot of creatures on board for the opponent to either Rapture Dance them or return them to his hand and hence discard them!

Important Cards:

Since the main idea of this deck is to make your opponent keep on drawing, every card in this deck is so important since replacing drawing effect can ruin the tempo that you want and replacing sleep effects can harm you greatly!

That is why you also do not see the deck used a lot because a lot of expensive cards in it are required!

Gameplay of this deck:

Conclusion:

As we can see, the god of deception have some very unique and weird playstyle if I must say so!

Some of them are so hard to perfect while other can be played with some practice yet all of them are so fun to play!

Keep in mind that as long as you keep trying and strategizing, you will reach the goal you want, even the decks I mentioned above might be improved somehow if you try to!

We will be testing them and sharing the results as soon as possible!

That was it for the post hopefully you like it if you do make sure to drop me a follow and comment your thoughts below!

I love Mill decks when your opponent burn cards because his hand is full and then went into fatigue. Very satisfying play.

Good information, keep it up.
