Hello everyone,
So yesterday I decided to try out an archetype that I have never or it has been very long since I tried it out. Now there were many like control war, OTK decks, control light exc.. However, the only one that I was able to make a decent deck with according to my budget was control nature.
All other archetypes needed many expensive cards to work, but control nature seemed reasonable and playable with an average costing deck. So I went for it and tried it out with my daily play to earn games for 2 days in a row so I will be sharing the results with you all because it was decent!
So without further ado, let's jump into it:
The Deck
The deck costs around 70$ which is on the average side, it is not very cheap yet not expensive at the same time. Most of the card as well can be afforded with the daily play to earn rewards and also most of them are rewarded from Mortal Judgement expansion and above. Now of course the deck can be more solid with more expensive cards but this one still worked. Let us jump into the results:
Matchup Results
As you can see, I has 12/20 wins overall in those 2 days, however, I started my games in Ethereal Diamond and then I reached mythic again, and the win rate dropped a little bit in mythic. It still got me almost half of my matches but not as effective as it was in diamond. This deck also suffered a lot against light which is spammed everywhere now in many versions. But overall pretty good results in my opinion!
Good additions
Now I will be mentionning a couple of cards that are good if added to this deck, however, I did not add them because they are a little bit on the more expensive cards but definitely affordabel, I just did not have enough for them. I will not be mentionning the very expensive ones!
Compost Charm
Compost Charm exists in pretty much every control nature deck, however, it is a little bit on the expensive side and I was not able to get it. It is still very playable even without it because you already have decent healing as well as insane clearing spells everywhere! But definitely good addition if available!
Dionysus, the Bountiful
Really good game finisher and a good late game creature to have. You can add it instead of one of the 8 mana cards that I have. It can generate an insane amount of cards as well as 4 damage everywhere. If late game was reached nature is almost unbeatable!
Malfunctioning Servitor
Despite having many strong clearing spells, this card is still good to have even if you have only one version of it. It can get rid of an annoying strong creature for your opponent, and if it has anything to do with the void, the transform will get rid of it permanently!
Now the only card that I thought is irreplacable is underbrush board. For a lot of aggro matchups it can set you up to a really good start and help you reach mid game with the least damage possible! It can be replaced with Faeflame blades but you will still take some damage from them.
Keycards and combos
Now I will be mentioning a keycard and a good combo to know with this deck. It can turn games around and help you take control of the game!
Curious Wisp
That's your keycard right there! This is the game finisher since you will keep adding stronger copies of it to your deck, you will never die of fatigue as well as having stronger and stronger creatures from it! Also with the old cutthroat gone now, it is almost impossible to deal with it in case you reached late game!
The dearly departed and Shines on us all
This is a good combo to know here. In case you wanted to get rid of an annoying creature for your opponent, you can first played the dearly departed and then use Shines on us all to reset it. This way even after it was killed the creature is gone forever!
How to play this deck
The key to playing this deck is simple: first of all keep in mind what type of deck your opponent might be using, is it a very paced aggro deck? or a late game one.
Second try to mulligan the best card that can help you survive to mid game in case you had an aggro match. In case it was an aggro matchups you can try and get mid game cards to create a little bit of pressure but you should be fine late game. Here is a good hand for an aggro matchup:
In case your early game hand was good you should be able to get to mid game with minimal damage. Now upon reaching mid game, this deck has a lot of decent spells for mid game as well as the healing you get from Winter Bounty. Try to use those to get to late game and survive.
Now late game is a little bit more straight forward. Either use your beasts, if your opponent was able to deal with them use that curious wisp cycle to win! If the cycle started earlier the better as well!
Final Thoughts
This deck is not doing well in the current meta according to statistics, it is not even among the top 7 decks. However, it is still effective in 60% of matchups and almost unbeatable if your luck was with you with your hands.
It is ton of fun to use but prepare yourself for 20+ mins matchup. If trying something new and you're feeling like playing the game, this deck is definitely what you should for! There are many scenarios on how to play it and how the game might go so go ahead and give it a try!
That was it for this one, I hope my experience benefits anyone out there, I was hesitating to try out the deck since it was out of meta at the moment but it did decent and was plenty of fun! So go ahead and try it if you feel like it! Take care everyone and I will see you on the next one!
Mad Love, Peace out!
With all that stall/removal, I think you need a better payoff than Gardner or Jotun. Even Helians are probably better, but I think budget control nature just about has to run poly (IMO). Maybe swap those 2 for 1 helian and 1 poly?
Probably so! Although most of my games were sealed off because of the wisp :D There is just no end for that little thing!
