Introduction of myself (prokonsul piotrus aka the wiki guy)

in Gods On Chain3 years ago

Hello everyone,

It has been a busy few weeks for me as I am crash learning about the crypto/blockchain revolution. I learned about Hive from my buddy @maly.zuczek and then yesterday I noticed the Gods Unchained event organized by @acidyo and now I am here.

So for those who are curious what new lost soul stumbled here, who am I? Well, I am a long-term Wikipedian, where I have written thousands of articles: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Piotrus IRL I teach at a university and research new media, and I find the crypto communities and projects like Hive revolutionary. This is a much more "for the people" vibe than what you get with the old dinosaurs like Facebook and so on, which are all about taking and nothing about giving. Wikipedia, on the other hand, is a bit too "give-minded" - contributing to it is great, but there are no rewards except the feeling of doing good with your life. Stuff like Hive seems to be a very interesting middle ground, something we needed decades ago.

As for GU, hmmm, it has been a fun two and a half weeks for me now (I got to rank 60 or so and just got my first Divine Order cards last week). As a long-time gamer, playing MtG since oh mid-90s, I find GU quite nice as well, and I hope to stick around for a while longer (although from the newbie perspective, the new cards seem a bit powerful creephish...). I do wish I joined a year or so ago, catching up, as usual, takes some effort - but it's mostly enjoyable (as long as I am not on a losing streak vs some armor-heavy decks, crushing my core weenies like there's no tomorrow :D).

Anyway, that's me, enjoying the adventure. Hope this is the beginning of something great for the entire world! And us, card player nerds, as well.

See you around, and if you have any questions about Wikipedia, feel free to ask, it's kind of my specialty in life :D Now, I need to think about writing up Wikipedia entries for Hive and GU, it's surprising they don't seem to have any yet.

A wikipedia-like platform on Hive could do really well since content is immutable, both original posts and edits - everything could be tracked to keep info more intact and avoid censorship or shadowbans/edits. I'm sure someone will eventually come out with a good solution for it that both incentivizes people to keep it up to date and filled with crypto rewards + is in the right hands of a group of people who can trust each other not to attempt any shady business (not that i'd be possible since everything's transparent on the chain).

Looking forward to reading more of your posts, you got off to a great start already! Delegating some more HP to you as I see you're low on resource credits. Welcome to Hive! :)

Thanks! I am not sure there it makes sense to fork Wikiepdia on hive - many forks have been tried but none have been succesfull, b/c the main project it too well known and all forks were unable to reach any critical mass. But I do hope Wikipedia can incorporate blockchain for security and rewards for contributors. Wikipedia founder recently sold the NFT of his first edit. But the tens of thousands of other contributors still reap zero reeward from Wikipedia outside self-fullfilment :/
