My newbie journey to Mythic
I learnt about this game early this year but only decided to start playing in Oct 2021 after I got my home PC built out (can't play using company laptop😅). While I intended to be a f2p player, I did purchase a few packs (from the leftover ETH in my wallet) and some cards using the $GODS token that I got from the Blessings of the Gods event. I managed to briefly hit Mythic over the Christmas weekend but got demoted to Ethereal Diamond now. Just want to share a few of my stupid mistakes and hopefully, helped some people saved some time in their initial stages of this game.
#1 Mistake: Only played 1 or 2 Gods
I was only playing Nature or Deception at the start for about 1-1.5 months. So, why is this bad? Firstly, because I never explored other gods, I never really knew how the other gods decks work or what combos they have. So, I was always being reactive only. This, in a way, made me a bad player as I was not preempting or planning ahead. Try to play with all gods and only by understanding the other gods, you know how to counter them.
Know thy enemy and know yourself; in a hundred battles, you will never be defeated
The other downside to this was I was not maximizing the Gauntlet of the Gods event to earn Flux. I'm pretty sure I lost out on a lot of Flux.
#2 Mistake: Plan before you attack
When I first started playing, I didn't really count how many favor I will get after each attack and what cards I can "buy" from the sanctum. I just "buy" them as I go along. Like it was the last step. That was so wrong! By calculating the damage I can deal and planning ahead for a card from the sanctum, that is sometimes so game-changing! It can be getting a card that help me kill a creature and getting a card that prevents opponent from killing my creature.
#3 Mistake: Clicking too fast!
How many of you clicked end turn and go "Ah! I forgot to attack!" or "I could have bought that card from sanctum first!"? Sometimes I just get in the heat of the game and left 1 creature out. Sometimes I go "I should have bought that card first" but can only watch my opponent buy the sanctum card to destroy my creature. So, slow down and check. That might have been a victory!
That's all for my 1st post in HIVE. Hope you all like the article. I will post more updates about my 1st tournament in the next post. 😎 Lastly, thanks to @acidyo for introducing me to HIVE and organising the contest (https://peakd.com/hive-173286/@acidyo/gods-unchained-hive-contest-update-and-more-details).
Great first post. I think we all have made some mistakes as new players. I am guilty of only playing nature. But I want to branch out in the near future to other gods. I feel like I want my nature deck to be a little more solid before I start working on another deck. I have not spent any of my $GODS token because I feel like we are still in price discovery. And I have my fingers crossed that we see a much higher price three or four months into 2022. I fight this urge every day I hold onto my $GODS as I want to pick up a few key cards for my deck. So who knows the token my bottom out and I held out for nothing lol. Welcome to Hive this is a great place to meet fellow players and earn a little extra that maybe we can convert into more GU cards. Keep up the great work. I look forward to seeing more posts from you in the future.
Thanks for your comment😁 Glad you liked it!
I had the same thinking too that I had to master my nature/deception deck before venturing out. But to master it, I do think I actually need to know what the other decks can do and will do. I do feel $GODS has room to grow but spending like 0.3 $GODS on a card that can bring my deck to the next level, it was simply irresistible!
Yea the cards I want to fill out my nature deck are gonna use a lot more $GODS then 0.3 lol. I have a pretty good grasp on what other gods can and will do just because I watch so many GU streamers. It really actually helps a lot. Cause most of the time they are going through the thought process of why they are playing said cards. And you get to see some higher end cards you may not always encounter. Keep on pushing here on hive there is really so much room to grown him with some solid effort and a little networking.
