We inaugurate a new section called "Learning about", where I will test interesting cards showing their advantages, disadvantages, tips and possible combos that I find.
The card to analyze is [Nemris, the Unstable], a card that can save you from trouble or hurt you.
The ability of the card can be very advantageous and disadvantageous at the same time, it depends on how you use it because when transforming enemy creatures in a random way you can end up complicating the game, let's see it with some examples.
Changing stats
In this game against [Guild Enforcer] he transformed into [Rift Scholar], which is a great advantage going from 3/5+1 to 2/2 in stats, plus the transformation doesn't activate the roar.
Let's compare the best and the worst scenario with the card [Guild Enforcer], in the best one he could transform into [Canopic Hoarder] and in the worst one he could transform into [The Rotted One] or some card that complicates the game, luck will decide it.
Eliminate Buff, Debuff and Effects
The cards when transformed return to the base state of the card, which can be used strategically in different situations when a card has become very powerful like [Empyrean Pacifist] or [Marsh Walker] to give some examples.
Ward protects from transformation
When used on creatures with ward they will not transform but the ward will be eliminated, which can be useful when affecting all enemy creatures.
Same Mana cost
The mechanic is based on the fact that the cards will transform based on the cost of mana, something that you must take into account when used against cards that summon other cards of the same cost or higher, as in this example where the card [Nightleaf Prowler] has a cost of 6 mana each, which impairs the use of the card.
Tips
- It can be very useful against creatures that use hidden, protected or order to avoid being attacked.
- It is recommended to be used against cards of 5 mana cost or less.
- It has good individual stats 5/5.
- It is a Neutral card and can be used in a variety of decks of all gods.
- The cards when transforming go to sleep during your turn and can be useful for decks or cards that make use of the sleep mechanic.
- When the roar is not activated the opponent does not get the advantages of the transformed cards.
If you want part #2 of learning about, leave it in the comments, thanks for watching. 🔥
It's an interesting mechanic for sure and can potentially mess your opponent's plan up, but IMO the biggest thing that makes transform less useful is the fact that the creature that was transformed goes into the void. This means transforming creatures like Hippacria's Monster won't stop your opponent from reviving it with Neferu's Khopesh and the like. Would definitely be worth looking at again if the behaviour was changed such that the creature that was transformed doesn't go to the void.
Seems to me like a more fun than beneficial mechanic :p Since it is random you never know if it might become a better or worst alternative but it's always fun for sure :p
Nemris is a cool card but it is more fun than competitive, a 6m 5/5 that sometimes is good and can low roll pretty badly won't make the cut in most decks.
