Thirsty, Splashed, And Clean.

That day started like a very normal day, Nothing dramatic, I just needed to go to the market to get body cream, that was it, One simple mission.

I got to the market confident, because in my head, I already knew what I wanted, i walked up to the first stall and asked,
“Aunty, do you have this cream?”

She barely looked up, “No.”

Okay. I moved to the next stall, Same question.
“Finished.”

Another stall.
“We don’t sell it here.”

After moving around the market like someone chasing shadows, it became clear that what I wanted was not going to be found that day, i stood there for a moment, annoyed and tired, then sighed , let me just buy something else and go home, I picked another cream, paid for it, and started heading back.

On my way, I boarded a keke, Inside was hot and uncomfortable, and the sun was doing too much, halfway through the ride, my throat started feeling dry, that kind of thirst that makes you uncomfortable and restless, I leaned out and called a hawker.

Pure water!!!!

She looked at me and shook her head,
“Aunty, na bottled water I get.”

I frowned, “No sachet water at all?”
“No o.”

I leaned back into the keke, annoyed, It was not that bottled water was bad, but at that moment, I wanted sachet water specifically, cold sachet water, i decided to just manage until I got home.

When we got to the bus stop, I dropped from the keke and flagged down a bike to take me home, i climbed on and said, “Abeg, take it easy.”

The man nodded like he heard me, but a few seconds later, he started riding like someone chasing something, before I could complain properly, he entered one big puddle of dirty water by the roadside.

Dirty water immediately flew everywhere.

“Hey!” I shouted, “Why would you pass here? Can’t you see water?”

He slowed down small, "Sorry madam, I no see am.”

“You no see am? with all this road?” i was so angry, my legs were splashed with dirty water, my slippers were soaked, and my mood was completely ruined.

When we finally got to my street, i paid him and walked home feeling irritated and uncomfortable, I did not want to talk to anyone, I just wanted to take my bathe.

Immediately I got inside, i dropped my things and just went straight to the bathroom, I turned on the tap, and as the water started running, I felt so relief, I stepped in and let the water wash over me, washing away the dirt from the puddle, the heat from the road, and the stress from all the whole day.

Now the dirty water that had annoyed me outside was gone, clean water replaced it, calm replaced anger.

After bathing, I felt lighter, i felt refreshed, like the day had finally reset itself, I lay down on the bed, relaxed, and before I knew it, sleep took over.

Funny how water annoyed me, denied me, splashed me, and finally comforted all in one day.
