I had read about them in books from different authors, all describing one thing, the light. An entity that was capable of restoring life as we know it. I never did believe though,
"probably authors trying to create a best seller", I always thought.
There wasn't much to do on our small island, so I read books whenever I could just to keep my mind preoccupied.
"Jason, food is ready!!", mother yelled from the kitchen.
I was just me and her after dad died 2 years ago. Life wasn't hard, the whole island was like one big family. We would often recieve groceries from neighbors, the island was everything you could wish for but I wanted to leave, see the world. There was more to life than one island.
Dad always said he was going to take me. He talked about other continents and people like he knew them personally. He was a fascinating man, always had new stories every night. His favorite ones where the ones that involved the light. One night, he told me how he had an encounter that changed his life forever.
"Your mother and I never thought we'd have you up until that day. I was sitting at the beach watching the stars while your mother made her famous chicken soup. It was a peaceful night until I saw something head towards our island. At first I thought it was a shooting star, we get many of those but this wasn't like that, it moved like it was floating and it went straight for your mother. I ran as fast as I could to the house.
Your mother was okay, making dinner as usual but the light was no where to be found. I thought I was hallucinating but a week later, she was pregnant with you after we tried for five years".
He seemed to believe this tale, I always felt he made it up, probably trying to make me feel like I was special.
"Time for bed honey, you have school tomorrow".
I leaped towards my room with my mother behind me. We made it a tradition to kiss the picture of my father kept on my shelf before each of us went to bed.
"Will I ever see papa again?"
"He's always here everytime you think about him"
She tucked me into bed while I closed my eyes to sleep.
"Is it morning already?", I thought opening my eyes to a very bright room. There it was, a glowing orb in my room. It looked harmless and brought a certain warmth to me, I felt like my father was in the room.
My door unlocked, mother made her way into the room but the light was no longer there, I must've been dreaming.
"Did you see it, did you see the light?"
"You must've been dreaming honey, I just came to check if you were comfortable".
I know what I saw, father was right, the light did exist and it was possible I was a miracle baby after all.
Wow, it's a painful thing to loss someone you love so much, I'm happy she has her mother to keep her safe. Sometimes we just don't want to accept reality and that is why we have to make the impossible possible, now she gets to believe that the story her father told was true after all.
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful story with us Josh 😊.
Beautiful story, I actually thought it was going to be a dream before but I'm glad you didn't make it so. I also loved how you made her feel her dad's presence through something he believed in, excellently written.
All powers come from the light..... What will this child in the story become?
You lay out the beginning of a great story, @treasure-joshua. You have great elements and characters here. At the end of the reading we are left with questions about what happened. We want to know the outcome of this story. More thoughtfulness in the moments of the story, properly attending to the unfolding and the denouement will impact the rewards to your post. Thanks for keeping up the interactions with your fellow community members.
Miracle child from the light.
It was all dream but I wanted to know what happened afterwards.
Nice write bro💯
Thanks man, glad you liked it
Beautiful work , kissing someone you love so much can be such a huge pain. After I got to middle of story, I felt so bad because the father in the story was no more. I know the kind of trauma this can give. The child conception and the light in the room were mysteries.
Thank you so much for your comment and taking your time to read, I'm really grateful.
