You tie this up nicely. You begin the story by letting readers know someone is eavesdropping, so the groundwork is laid for a stealth admirer. You then explain about the 'surprise' birthday party. The stealth admirer was able to get valuable information with which to woo the young lady. At the end, sure enough, the young lady's heart is won.
