Thank you for this story, @wongi! It's so evocative that you're also counting down two years. Who were you suffering for? The reader is left with that question. This would have made your story even more powerful. It could have served to give James a comfort reciprocal to the one you give him, and it would have given the reader a clearer idea of your own feelings that are veiled by the friend's story.
