You handle the prompt and the challenge beautifully. Happiness is the goal. In pursuit of that goal our protagonist is despondent, and yet hopeful. She searches for someone to bond with, but does not let disappointment rob her of her mission...to help. It is that mission which redeems her. Your voice is strong, and consistent. Sweet, yearning and yet hopeful.
