You created an atmosphere of horror, of suspense. While the protagonist is obviously suffering, there is no way for the reader to know if the protagonist is having a psychotic break or if something external is happening. The story is good, as far as it goes, but readers do want resolution. A few tips on creating a story arc are given in this post, written by @jayna.
