It seems that a cat makes every story better. This is quite a cat, a strong personality, with a strong presence. Achille may have been fine without Gilbert, but as Jean-Luc knows, it is love that is has the strongest pull. This line was lovely:
who lowered his voice to a deep bass purr as the cat went back to sleep on his lap.
