RE: Love From A Thousand Mile

in The Ink Well2 years ago

Hello @cool08,

You have used this prompt with great agility. Not only do the young people have tender feelings for each other, but they have these feelings at a tender age. We understand the narrative. They are thrown together in a circumstance of tragedy and are separated by forces beyond their control.

It seems that at the end, one has held true to the promise, and the other has not. The conclusion is a bit confusing because of two statements. One implies that Dean intends to take Katrina with him:

I don't want to go without taking you with me.
Who am I to hide my heart from you? I have been looking for all means to get in touch with you but was not able to. Our tender age is not gone, we have to live for each other but not from a thousand miles.

The other suggests that he is separating from Katrina:

Dean said politely, I understand and you just have to forgive me. I can't afford to remain glued to you

Which one of those statements reflects Dean's intentions? In a way an open end is interesting, but we think readers probably would like to know how this central conflict (stay together or separate) is resolved.

Thank you for sharing this interesting story with us. We appreciate that you engage with other members of the community.
