Peculiar. That was her name. She has always been strange and weird even as a little girl, but it didn't bother her that she was different from everyone else instead, she embraced it. For that was all she could do to be at peace with herself.

... ... ... ...

"Darling! Get up! It's time for breakfast". Sharon, Peculiar's Mother and the pillar in her life called out.
"Hmm, I'm coming".

Peculiar replied as she climbed out of bed.

"You don't look so good this morning, bad night?".

Sharon asked when Peculiar sat at the table.

"So, so".

Peculiar mumbled.

With a sigh Sharon gave her a kiss on the forehead.

"I'll be home late today, Don't wait up. I love you".

"I love you too Mama".

She had gotten used to having her mom doing everything but sometimes she wished things were different.

Her Father left them in the lurch when she was seven and hasn't shown up since then. Most times she wonders what having a loving Father feels like.

She heaves a sigh.

The phone rings and she picks it up.

"Hello?".

Silence..

"Hello?".

Silence..

She sighed and dropped the phone and went to prepare for the day.

... ... ... ... ...

Hours pass by unnoticed. Peculiar is deep inside her world, the world of numbers. She discovered at an early age that numbers were her thing, so she pursued them.

After what seems like the longest day at work, she is happy to go home to her bed and sleep away the stress of the day.

... ... .... ... ...

Sharon isn't home yet, so she decides to make dinner and then go to bed. BANG!
Peculiar let out a gasp as the lobby noise came from upstairs.

"Who's there?".

She shouts.

"I'm calling the police".

She says while going up the stairs with her heart pounding furiously. Her room is the first so she entered to check and found the window broken, cold air rushing in. Fear grips her tight as she wonders what happened.
She heard the phone ring suddenly and screamed.

"Hello?".

She says..

Heavy breaths could be heard...

"Who are you, why are you calling me and why the hell did you break into my house?".

Peculiar asked angrily.

Silence...

Then...

" My little girl, you're all grown up...".

A male voice replied.

Peculiar froze. Her hands begin to shake. Slowly, slowly, Peculiar crushes the phone still in shock.

"No".

"No".

She sits on the floor and sobs.

"Baby, what's the matter?".

Sharon asked.

"Mom, It's Daddy".

Peculiar tells her, her voice shaking.

Silence...

   THE END..

The story presents a girl who obviously suffers from emotional stress. She has come to terms with her father's absence, and then is suddenly confronted with his presence. The reader wonders, because of her emotional instability, if reality and unreality are blurring in Peculiar's experience. An interesting character sketch.

Thank you very much for reading.

The name of the protagonist seems to me a genius, the story covers a variety of topics are subtlety, dysfunctional family, emotional problems, with touches of mystery and tension. I liked it.

Thank you very much.

Emotional. But was her father breaking into her room to gain her attention and then calling the phone at the same time?

Well, who knows? .

Peculiar is the foregoing story is lost in her emotion, not particularly her fault but a position she found herself. I hope she is able to restore herself over time.

I hope so too. Thank you for reading.
