"Grandpa grandpa tell us a story, we want to hear those your interesting stories."

Nala and Zoey rants to their grandpa. They surround him, each of them trying to grab his legs with their chubby hands. Grandpa Ken picks them up and settles them on his laps. He looks at his two little granddaughters with admiration and says,

"Fine, I will tell you a story, a very interesting one if you promise not to make any noise."

"Yay!"

long time ago, far beyond the seas and mountain, there lived an empire ruled by one of the most cruel emperor, Emperor Wu Yang. The Emperor was 6 feet tall with eyes as dark as coal and a face as cold as ice. He never smiled, he was known and feared amongst all. He derived joy from inflicting pains and sufferings on people. He had a son who was his complete opposite.

Prince Wu Tang was the only son of his father, but he had 3 older sisters. His mother, Empress Xang Yi, tried all her best to change the Emperor's behavior but he remained cruel and ruthless.

Every first day of the month, the Emperor released new decrees. One Monday morning, while the people had gathered to to hear the latest decree, a commotion was heard coming from the Emperor's inner chamber. The Emperor and the Prince were having an argument which had led to the smashing of some items. The people were terrified to meet the Emperor especially if he was in a bad mood.

The sudden appearance of the Emperor got everyone chilled to their bones. The atmosphere had become so tense that the people had to hold their breath. The Emperor eyed the people like a predator staring at his prey. The people trembled and shivered. when he raised his hands, a scroll was brought to him by the chief guard. He opened it and read it out with a loud voice devoid of any emotions.

"All young men, rich or poor, fat or thin must join the royal army on my son's coronation day, failure to do so is death".

Once the Emperor retreated to his chambers, the people scrambled out to their homes. Murmurs were heard.

Prince Tang sat on his bed in deep thoughts, troubled. He wanted to make his people happy, his people had been in tears for too long. He had argued with his father about the recent decree, he had no idea how his father reasoned. Since his coronation to become the new Emperor would be in a fortnight, he made a promise to himself to bring change to the empire.

On the day of Prince Wu Tang's coronation, many dignitaries from far and wide attended the ceremony. All the young men were dressed in the royal military uniform, they all looked sad. The ceremony was similar to that of a funeral. The people faked their smiles to please the Emperor.

After Prince Wu Tang was crowned as the next Emperor, the young men were asked to bend a knee to the new Emperor. Then, the prince was given a scroll to read which would bind their oat to the crown. Immediately the scroll was handed over to the new Emperor, Emperor Tang. He stood up and acknowledged his father and all the dignitaries but instead of reading out the scroll, he had torn it into half and thrown it to the floor. He had looked at his father dead in his eyes and had said,

"I won't let my people become slaves to the crown, they can join my army if they want. Father your reign is over, a new reign have begun."

After Emperor Tang made his speech, the people cheered for him with so much joy in their faces. while his father the former emperor, left the ceremony with a scrowl. The people were happy because just a single tear had ended their tears and sufferings.

Grandpa Ken looks down at his little granddaughters only to find them already sleeping. He laughs softly. He carries them and tucks them into their little bed. He kisses their forehead and whispers,

"Good night my little angels."

Many people love taking decision to make their people great. Taking your people first is the best instead of enslaving them. Old reign is not in existence but new reign shall prevail...

Yeah, you are correct. It is better for the people you rule to love you, than to hate and fear you.

Wow. The Prince really has a lot of courage to stand up to such an oppressive father. Well, yes the bad emperor's reign is over and now the people can finally live happier lives.

I really love the structure and setting of your story. I could see the story as I was reading it. Great job!

Yes, the prince was very brave....Thanks for visiting my blog.

A story within a story, @smokyice. Very nicely done. You got the prompt in and you dealt conflict/conflict resolution well. The new king will rule more wisely.

Such a great story! And I must commend the prince’s courage. Old things have passed away, now it’s time for a new reign.😇

Yeah...the prince is very courageous and kind hearted. Thanks for visiting my blog.

Hello @smokyice. The way you developed your story, like a grandfather's tale, I liked it very much. The conflict between the emperor and the son was resolved for the good of the people. The ending was very tender

Thank you so much.
