Clark had made it his daily routine to go to the balcony in his penthouse every morning to watch the sun rise. He found the glowing red ball to be very mesmerising. Today was no exception.

As early as 6am, Clark struggles to his wheelchair in a hurry so as not to miss the sun set. Wheeling himself to the balcony, he feels the chilly summer breeze biting his skin. Staring at the little black birds making rythmic sounds, he feels his mind drifting to the past where he had an accident and had almost lost his family.

As a young boy, Clark loved mathematics and anything that involved calculations. He was one of the brightest kids in his class. His father was a primary school teacher and his mother owned a hair salon. He always looked forward to going to his mother salon every weekend because, that is where he met rich folks. He always watched how the rich women behaved with their kids. He wanted to be like them.

After he graduated from college, getting a job wasn't hard for him because he had the brains. He got a job as a secretary in one of the richest companies in the country. Due to his hardwork, he became the personal assistant after a short period of time. After working for a year and half, he opened his own company. He dealt with the importation and exportation of textiles. He became rich within a short while.

He soon got married and had two sons. His family was his world. He wanted to make enough money, so his family wouldn't lack anything. The money he had was not enough to him, he wanted more. He spent little time with his family due to his various business trips. He always made sure they had enough money. His wife often complained to him about his lack of affection and absence in the kids life, but he always assured her that all he did was for their sake.

One cool April morning, while Clark had breakfast with his family, he disclosed his next business trip to them. He had spoken to them about it excitedly but they had looked at him rather unimpressed. His wife, Leena had voiced out her thoughts."Honey, you need to start spending time with your family. Look at our boys...." she gestured towards their sons."They are growing up without knowing who you truly are." He had tried to explain how important this trip was but she had cut him off with a sharp tone."Stop placing your business over your family. Get an assistant!" His wife had gotten pissed and had left the dining.

Later that night, while he packed his suitcase for the trip, he had noticed his wife's gloomy expression. He had tried to pacify her, "Darling please bear with me just this once. I am going to appoint an assistant after this trip. I will make this my last trip I promise." He tried to hug her but she had ignored him and gone to bed.

Before he left for the airport, he had hugged his sons but his wife still ignored him. On his way to the airport, he had met with traffic jam. He knew he was going to be late so he decided to take a shorter route. The road he took was a bad and bumpy road. He noticed the sloppy road ahead late due to his high speed. Everything seemed to have moved in slow motion as his car tumbled down the sloppy road. He only heard the distant sound of sirens before he blacked out.

He had woken up to see himself been surrounded by his family in tears. He tried to move his legs but couldn't. The doctor soon broke the news to him that he had broken his legs. He had screamed in agony. But the doctor had assured him that he could still walk again if he was given all the care he needed. He had gotten home to find divorce papers on the dining table. His wife told him that she would have divorced him if he had gotten on that plane.

A soft tap on his shoulders brings him back to reality. He looks up to see his wife staring at him with love. She smiles and pecks him on his forehead. It has been two years since the accident and he can still remember how afraid he had felt when he had discovered the divorce papers. He holds her hands and promises to love her and the children more. Now, the accident serves as a good reminder that his family is greater than all the money in the world.

very touching story. Money and love cannot be replaced by money. When we are in trouble, our family is the first to help us. I like your story

Yeah... love is everything.

I enjoyed your story, @smokyice. Clark really did come close to losing everything. But will he walk again? The doctor seemed to suggest that he can heal, but he's still in a wheelchair two years later. I was just curious about that detail.

Yeah....he almost lost everything. Walking again is a gradual process. so, with time he will surely walk again. Thanks for visiting my story.

Just one mistake and Clark would have lost his beautiful wife. Thank you for sharing this. I think we ought to be careful with our decisions.

Yeah, every decision is very important. Thanks for reading my story.

Awww, this is so heart warming story. You never realize the importance of something until you lose it.

Yeah, that's true.

Yeah..it will take time though.
