My father's car

It all started when my dad bought a second car, then it's before the death of my mum and being the backbone of the family, my mum was the one that used to pay for the repair of the Volkswagen vehicle whenever it developed a fault.

But when we lost her to the cold hand of death everything changed and there's a day that the car engine got knocked on our way to Osogbo.

On that particular afternoon, while in the traffic at a busy junction, the engine got knocked and immediately this happened, there's a traffic jam everywhere as this our Volkswagen beetle car would not allow all other vehicles to pass.

“What's this?” My dad asked himself. But instead of him to answer, I was the one that answered him saying, “it's nothing sir, just calm down we will leave this place.”

These words went down into my dads mind and strengthened him after which both of us alighted from the car and started pushing the car to the road side for other vehicles to pass.

But after that, my dad and I were stranded looking for a towing vehicle to help us tow the vehicle home, but the issue back then was that of where we would get the needed money to pay the towing vehicle even if we saw one.

Fortunately, while standing by our car, a thought ran through my mind and that thought was that of selling my mobile phone so as to be able to pay the towing vehicle even if we see one.

And as God would have it, we saw a towing vehicle passing by, but then I did not sell my phone, but I told my dad to approach the towing vehicle driver and negotiate with him.

This my dad did and after that, he came to me and told me the man said he would be collecting 8k from us just to tow the vehicle to a nearby mechanic workshop, but that he had beat the price down to 5k.

So, immediately I heard this, I went straight to a phone repairer shop and greeted him saying,

“Good afternoon man.” “Good afternoon Mr. Man,” he replied. “What can I do for you?” He asked. “Please man, I want to sell my Nokia 3110c,” I said. “I'm not interested in buying, I'm sorry man,” he said. “Okay, no problem,” I replied.

So, when I realized this man was not interested in buying my phone, I went out. Less I forget, the man told me he would have bought the phone from me, but he was cash strapped. But as I was about to leave the man's shop, a young guy came to me and said to the man, the phone repairer is calling me. So, I quickly turned back and went straight to where the man was sitting.

However, when I got to him, he asked me.to negotiate with the guy that came to call me as he was the one that wanted to buy the phone, so, immediately he told me this, I and the boy moved to a corner of the shop to do our negotiation and it's during the negotiation that I told the guy that I would be selling the phone for 17k, but the guy said he would be paying 12k, but I insisted on 17k, but at the end we both agreed on him paying 15k and that's how the transaction went through.

So, after we had both agreed on the 15k, the guy paid me the money in cash and immediately I received the money. I went to give the man that connected us together 2k and left. The two I gave to the guy was meant to appreciate him for connecting me with the guy.

However, when I got to the road side where my car was parked, the towing vehicle had left. I asked my dad why he left, but he told me the man said we were keeping him late as he had lots of work to attend to.

When I heard this, I was a little frustrated, but because of the cash on me, I was encouraged and believed we would not be stranded. But while still waiting to get another towing vehicle, I narrated how the transaction went with my dad and he was moved with emotion as he almost shed tears but I embraced him and told him he's really done well for us,

“If not for the fact that you lost your job, we would have been here,” I said.

So, when I told him this, he was relieved of his heavy mind and we were both happy together as we were looking for where to get a towing vehicle and fortunately we found one at a mechanic shop and he agreed to help us with 3k to tow the vehicle to his workshop, it's like a magic when the man said he would help us to repair the vehicle for 7k.

When the mechanic man said this, I wasn't so sure of what he was saying. I asked him again and he reiterated what he had earlier said and it's then I knew I heard him well.

I kept faith in the man's ability to help us repair the vehicle and it's amazing when we test-run the vehicle and it's in perfect shape.
