In the street of Lania, lived a girl called Zaria. She is a very intelligent and kind child. Her mother died few days after giving birth to her. Her father cared for her, what she needed he gave it to her. He made sure she lacked nothing. In school, Zaria was always among the top three in the entire class. This always made her father proud of her, he say “you are just like me”. Zaria kept on making her father proud in every where she could.

One day, as Zaria and her father were driving down a street in their neighborhood, Zaria spotted a man who was in need of help. She told the driver to stop the car. She told her father that the man was in need of help that they should help him. Her father annoyed by what she said told her “it is not our responsibility to help others”. He told her that he should never hear that from her ever again.

Upon returning home, Zaria could not take her mind off the man she saw. She thought of a way to help him. She taught hard, she knew that if her father catches her that she be in trouble. She told her father that the will be having after school classes with their teacher. Her dad without knowing her plans agreed to her joining. Instead of the after school classes, she went on hawking bread and to use the money to take care of the man she saw. She always got bread from a woman who knew who she was. One day the woman asked her, why she was hawking bread when her was rich and could take care of all her needs. She told the woman that she hawked bread to take care of a man who is in need of help. The woman asked her why she hasn’t told her father to help the man. She said her dad won’t, that is why she caring the responsibility on her head. The woman felt sorry for her, at such a young age, she was carrying the weight of the world on her shoulder.

Zaria continued to sell bread to take care of the man, she would even stay with the man sometimes. Whenever the man was sick, she would use the money gotten from selling of bread to buy medicine for the man. At times the money would not be enough for her get drug for the man. She would prefer to take the drugs on credit and pay back the next day. The pharmacist would always take pity on her and give her the drug but telling her not to come again.

Zaria continued her hawking for months. One day her dad called her teacher to ask about the after school classes but her teacher said there was nothing like that in the school. Coming home, he asked Zaria of her where about but she lied to her father. Her father decided to pay someone to follow her. He later found out that she was always hawking on the street. He confronted, and told her not to try it again.

Zaria continued with her hawking despite her father’s warning. One day while hawking, she tried crossing the road but was knocked down by a vehicle. She was rushed to the hospital. She father, who was watching the news at his office, heard that a girl was knocked down by a vehicle while crossing the road. Looking to the screen of his television was the image of his daughter. He rushed to the hospital where she was admitted in. He asked why she had continue hawking when he told her to stop. She reminded him of the man the saw, who needed help but he refused to help. He told him that he was hawking to take care of the man. She told her father to change and help people. Her father agreed. While they were talking Zaria died. Her father cried helplessly like a baby. He could not bear the loss of his only daughter.

Few days later Zaria was buried. To live up to his promise to his daughter, he went to the man who his daughter used to help and helped him. He began helping people around and far. He built a foundation in honour of his daughter to live up to her legacy.

Zaria really had a good heart. Quite sad she had to die too soon. But everything happens for a reason. Her death wasn't a waste after all because it led the father to pick up from where she left off

I liked how Zaria secretly sold bread to help the poor man. Her kindness shows even a child can make a big difference. Her death was sad, but her love changed her father’s heart and teaches us to help others.
